All you need to know about Finnish language...

Ok, just a little thing to show how French people have fun with Finnish... One of Sentenced's guitarist is Mika Tenkula; and pronounced in French it sounds exactly like 'Mika t'encula', which means 'Mika buggered you'. And one last thing about that band called Demigod: in French it means something like 'half dildo'.

'Soit le crabe a raison, soit le Krabathor'

Those make almost sense, but I think they could be translated better too. What translator did you use?

Goddamn those are horrible translations!

Some of them are almost word-to-word correct but the meanings get pretty twisted and a few a really fucked up. For example "Children of Bodom" should be "Bodomin lapset" and "Iltahalu" is more like "Nightlust" - now isn't that a fitting name. :D

But damn it is nice to see so many foreigners here interested in our beautiful country and language. And if you want to see some real forests, forget Oulu and all the other big cities; you need to come to Kainuu. That's where the true "korpi" is. :D

And by the way, the first name of the Sentenced guitarist is written (and pronounced) with two i's - MIIKA.

-Villain (en finne igen)

well, i do my best:eek:) i am really interested in the finnish language, it looks so complicated and weird, and it makes no sense at all, much less that any other european language. if i ever have time i might try and learn a bit, and i really want to come to finland someday.

This is the translator i used...someone on this msg board posted it:

Good, that's the best E-F-E online translator I've found.

And as Villain said, forget the bigger cities if you want to see forests and wilderness, Kainuu is indeed one of the coolest places if that's what you're looking for.

Ahh! I love this thread.

I get to learn as important words as bubble bath and the more you talk about where to find the deepest woods the easier it will be for me to set up my next little "Tour de Finlande". :D

On the right sleave of my bodom sweatshirt says "Menkää Pois!"
Does it mean the same thing left sleave "Let go of my arm ya fuck"???

Hiya folks! Long time no see, I know. I'm incredibly busy with work and school... AAAND... with looking for a school to learn Finnish during my summer vacation. In Finland of course. :D

Any info, tips and suggestions are appreciated. :)

Also, I have a question...

Can you tell me if there are short forms (haha!), nicknames or pet forms for the following names...

Minna
Markus
Kai
Esa ... :D
