American-V.S-American

Death and thrash STARTED in the US, dude. That's pretty fucking unique.

There were a few key bands in each of those that were unique at the start, but gave rise to a great number of knockoffs that were not unique at all that came off from their rising popularity.

Take for example: Pantera. They had their own uniqueness and gained massive popularity in the US, but how many Pantera knockoff bands did that insipire? Same goes for Metallica, Slayer, Death, Possessed, and the like. A few bands come up with something new, and then 100 bands copy them precisely. This is a trend that is not unique to the US... it happens everywhere, but it seems overly apparent there. The few unique ideas are copied by hundreds and that new, fresh idea then gets over-redundant and boring.

The point I was making, is RIGHT NOW there is little innovation going on... Think of your own signature: Those bands could be trying to do something new and different... something imaginative... but instead they're making more thrash.

anyway, enough. QED.

EDIT

Actually, I think this is one of the most idiotic things I've ever posted

Some bands dont wish to come out of the underground or to gain a massive fan base. Take Darkthrone for example. They are perfectly happy being a band that sells minimal records compared to most metal acts nowdays (although more than most black metal acts). Of course they work seperate jobs, but they would despise having a large fan base because it draws in a herd of ignorant and foolish people. Some bands do care who listen to their music. Im not saying i whole heartedly agree with this, but its certainly not unheard of. You can find more inovative and original bands in the U.S. than you would think, if you dig a little deeper. By the way, Burzum dosent suck. Saying this to support and argument of Ignorance without stating why is ignorance in itself.

yeah, actually now that I started to think about what I was saying, my argument is kind of foolish.

I think I started to pull stuff out of my ass because IOftheStorm pisses me off.

Mmmmmmmm.... What about Rush?
definetally
i consider Rush as the BEST BAND EVER (still remember the ultimate battle in this forum with some who think that they are overrated and not special at all)
but look at all the main prog metal bands .. they are all from the u.s.a. (Queensryche, Fates Warning, Psychotic Waltz, Watchtower, Dream Theater etc)
Also all the great power metal bands where from the u.s.a.
I think that the best bands in every gengre of metal came from the u.s.a (except black metal of course)

You are right, some of the greatest bands ever come from USA... but you can't deny that where a band is great, thousands follow... as I posted earlier in this thread, look what happened to Thrash Metal in the beginning of the 90ies... death in the middle of the 90ies... and now to Mallcore...

Where a band succeeds in america, thousands will try to do the same...

well every rose has its thorns, but you dont blame the rose for that. This happens in every form of art, and it is normal. Europe succeeds more in the "where a band is great, thousands follow... " with all these Helloween - copies so called "power" metal bands.

Heheheh, that's a relief. I was halfway through a long reply earlier today, and then the bell rang and I quit in disgust. I can't believe my Unnecessary Effort Detector didn't kick in.

Yeah, let's just agree that metal fucking rules and leave it at that.

I don't think it's important to tell from which country great metal bands are... after all, we are all on the same planet right?
