...and you thought Attack Attack was shit?

alright I mentioned this in the other AA-bashing threads and it still boggles my mind how none of you STEP BACK and REALIZE THE BIG PICTURE HERE:

HOW can anyone be offended at the comparitively TINY and INSIGNIFICANT success of these crabcore bands, when juxtaposed with the MOST POPULAR MUSIC in america right now, which is horrendous mainstream hip-hop, and cookiee cutter producer pop. Rap now has been reduced to a few 808 beeps and thumps with a flatline auto-tuned puerto rican whining and some butthurt gangsta talking slowly about killing people, and they're #1 records consistently forever.

meanwhile, you have some scene kids who make a scene metal band for lulz and their scenekid friends go to the show and they attract mid-size label attention and get to tour non-stop playing shows that look to ME like atleast a little bit of fun, and probably for audiences of 30-50 kids.

WHO is more talented, the 16 yearold crabcore kid playing a microkorg and headbanging like a maniac, or the butthurt gangsta who got selected for some reason by hollywood producer #7245?

more importantly, which is more offensive to our integrity as musicians/producers? as far as talent / success ratio?

ANYONE that wants to be succesful, and maximize sales, for ANYthing, needs to make a product that's easily marketable to stupid people, because that's the vast majority of the population. and that's why gangsta rap ringtones are such a huge product, even though anyone with any self-respect is baffled as to who exactly buys that crap.

Well said.

Also, the bands that we DO think deserve their success will consistently pull in sizeable crowds, depending on their work ethic, intentions for their career, etc.

These are the bands that I'll continue to support, buy music from, and go to see live. The other bands simply will not get my attention. I'd rather expend energy supporting good bands and attempting to write good music rather than bitching about shit bands that I wouldn't listen to anyway.

I think this thread should be left at:

Some people will like certain types of music.. others will like other types of music.

It's really depressing to see that this thread has over 2,500 views, and over 100 replies..

And there are new, hopeful, aspiring Audio Engineers that post in the "Production Tips", and the "Rate my Mix" threads that don't get NEAR the attention that they deserve.

It's saddening to see all these threads blown off because everyone wants to make their way over to "Let's flame on this genre today" threads to see what the latest gossip is on the latest shitty crabcore band.

AND, not to mention.. the threads that DO get answered in the Production Tips forum often consist of "use the search function, n00b."

I really wish you guys would use the search function and see that THIS KIND OF THING has been covered a TON of times..

Just let it go, guys.. :/

Sheeshh, is it "cool" to think like this nowadays?

I'm sorry but I find this horribly distressing. What happened to self-respect and distinguishing between what corrupts the individual and what keeps him intact mentally and physically? In a world where everything goes, everyone should be fucking worried.

As Phil Anselmo once said: " Is there no standard anymore? "

It was a joke you tit.

First of all, it can be agreed upon that the internet is not the best medium to convey a joke or use sarcasm. So as I said before excuse me if my reply seemed offensive.

But the problem today just that...things aren't being taken seriously enough. I'm not talking about your comment in particular; but one look around us and it becomes apparent how everything has lost its value.

Words; be they in the form of promises, theories or free expressions, have become almost meaningless. It seems that one has forgotten the responsibility that comes with freedom of speech. If I cannot walk into a classroom to trust what my tutor is telling me because anything can be said and done without too much concern, then it has become evident that something is wrong.

If I say something to a crowd, especially if the medium I am using has flaws which may hinder my cause, then I should remember that those receiving the message might misinterpret what is being said, and take it as truth.

You were expressing your opinion, but how many times do dickhead preachers, theorists and politicians utter nonsense and present it as the truth, to the detriment of the populace who cannot discern (either due to a lack of resources or lack of ability) between what is real and what isn't?

I know I went a bit OT here, but even if what you said was just a joke, it does hold a certain weight to it.

How many people went astray because of losing themselves to drug abuse or selling out to please their record label? Ruined relationships because of affairs on tour, lost the meaning of their music because of trying to keep up with sales objectives?

Some might be insulted by it (not I, because I haven't been affected by such things), so I'm just saying that when things are ambiguous its best to be careful, especially on such a meaty subject.

Again, sorry if I came off as a prat. Here's a beer on me. :kickass:

It's funny, cause when I look at the "Slice The Cake" myspace, it looks like a couple "scene kids" that fell off the attack attack tourbus.

What gives Gareth?

drew_drummer You sound like a preacher a bit yourself there mate

Why's that? Because I bothered to elaborate on my thoughts? It's not the idea of putting forward ideas to others which is troublesome, its the intents behind them which is. If you think my post was full of shit, no one is making you take me seriously. I'm not forcing it down your throat or claiming that what I'm saying is correct and unquestionable.

The label have to invest a hell of a lot of time and money. At 15 most people can barely even play their instruments - as evidenced by this band. There are a hell of a lot more bands out there that deserve that level of success way more than AA, and I refuse to acknowledge that the situation is fine and 'just'. It isn't. The industry is fucked, and they are at the forefront of it.

I only can tell you about the german scene:
And over here the bands that got big like Caliban, Heaven shall burn, maroon, all played hundreds of shows and invested like 10k in their Band to get were they are...

If there's one thing I've learned from band behind-the-scenes vids/interviews, it's that to survive, you really do just have to tour relentlessly - I really don't do well being away from home for long periods (not a matter of homesickness, I just need my many routines for personal tranquility - and I also have to eat constantly, and am somewhat picky :D) - so yeah, no matter how much I may loathe a band, definitely +1 to respect for them if they can handle that lifestyle!

Yeah dude. My lifting/eating is a nightmare on the road.

I still train, and I still eat 8 times a day, it just costs me WAY more.

Fuck man, I don't doubt it - god bless whey protein isolate products anyway :D

And also, I highly doubt touring is conducive to a healthy sleep routine, which I'm pretty much useless without - and I'm sure by the end, you're ready to tear off at least one band member's head!

I played with my band like 100shows and touring is hard sometimes. You realy need to LOVE what you are doing to give up "routines for personal tranquility".
I would never ever buy a CD of a band like AA nor would I go on a show of them, but I do respect their effort!!!

if you mean in terms of how we dress, i dunno about jonas but i personally believe in keeping your fashion sense and your music taste seperate, i dont see a correlation. i wear skinnies and t-shirts and shirts because i think i look good in them and i like looking good.
i listen to drone and stupid jazz because i like how it sounds, not because of what they're wearing.
