Andy's 80's/AOR thread :p

Album Oriented rock/Adult Oriented rock/album oriented radio
I've never thought any of those terms actually described the bands they are used for. Most of those bands weren't exactly album oriented. Most of those bands were reliant on hit singles to sell their albums.

Adult oriented rock doesn't make sense either. Bands like Whitesnake would have appealed more to a younger audience then a middle aged one.

And what the hell is album oriented radio?

Ok 3 points.

1) I know the two Harem Scarem albums were released in the 90's. It says 'AOR/80s rock' so I'm going by the 'AOR' side of it, not the 80s side.

2) Since when does adult = middle aged?

3) AOR band goes to Glam rock? As the title says 'AOR/80's rock' so obviously any 'glam' album listed will fall under the 80s rock title, not AOR.

Europe - The Final Countdown (knock it all you want, but its a KILLER release!)

Both Prisoners In Paradise and Wings Of Tomorrow OWN this album HARD. And that is saying somehting because The Final Countdown is indeed a great album. The self titled and Out Of This World rule also.

Ok adult doesn't equal middle aged. So AOR is music for anyone over 18. Wow. Great term. I agree with old Suedehead. Its a stupid term.

It's as ridiculous as The New Wave of British Heavy Metal.

Fucking hell all of these bands n albums - its hard to get into it all when you didnt grow up with it.

Ferret - I love Risk and Virtual xi, but they arent anywhere near the best releases of each band.

I like Foreigner - Cold As Ice lol, does that mean i am worthy of posting in this thread? One album i really fucking dig though is Whitesnake - Slip of the tongue. Havent heard any other whitesnake besides that album, but its so kick ass.

Where does the line get drawn between AOR and hard rock?
I know I asked about AOR in the LORD forum and I read the Wiki page on AOR, but it all still seems too similar. Is it pretty much the lyrics?
