Hmmm... i guess to each his own but the majority would likely disagree with you. Actually... i am guessing a 50/50 split. I like soilwork more, but i love in flames too.

As for Soilwork being an At The Gates ripoffThey have progressed light years beyond At the Gates talents, and are much more interesting and powerfull than AtGates ever was.

Wait...HAHAHAHAHAHAHA...I'm over it
Surely one of the stupidest things I have ever read. Dolphz, if this is a serious statement you must think Limp Bizkit is the essence of pure musical ectasy.
This is not to diss you or anything, I just really had a good laugh over this one! This is one motherfuckin' fact of life we have to get realistic about...Originally posted by Dreamlord

I think Dolphz exaggerated it a little, cause At The Gates rule of course, but when looking purely at songwriting and instrumental skills, Soilwork have indeed surpassed At The Gates in the meantime. Stating that doesn't do any injustice to the greatness of At The Gates, but musical progression went on after Slaughter Of The Soul and that's nothing but logical and natural. It's the same with everything. The Spitfire was a great fighter plane, but we've got far superior ones now, don't we..?

Hmmm.....not so sure I agree. Yes I see your point about the fighter plane. But hear is a more relevant comparison. In 1986, a group going by the name of Slayer released an album that is STILL considered the alpha and omega of thrash metal. Yes, the songwriting may be better nowadays as well as production within thrash, but NOTHING will ever surpass the sheer power and magnitude of that 30 minute album. The same is with At the Gates within the realm of death metal. 'Nuff respect.

At The Gates were great for their time, but accept the face, they have been improved upon many times over.
There is no 100% original music. Furthermore, every intelligent and honest musician will openly admit that they were touched or influenced by other bands and musicians. There have been plenty of bands that used material/style/structure from other bands, and did it BETTER than the original band.

You dont piss off anyone. YOu just show everyone you are a typical elitist closeminded opeth fan. Like half the forum is. You seem to love originality in a band but then you seem happier if they keep that originality sound throughout the years. Like Opeth or at the gates, neither band has done a complete 180 in their careers, and soilwork has done dramatic changes. Shure when DT comes along with skydancer, ocaet, the gallery, the minds I, projector, haven, and damage done everyone goes nuts over their evolution. But since soilwork isnt an established legend they need to keep doing the same album over and over.![]()

Also in my opinion as an Opeth "Elitist", Opeth HAVE done a complete 180 from Orchid to BWP and I don't like it. To me Orchid and Morningrise are superior to BWP.

Ok, then. Thank you for that philosophical statement, Einstein
I'll be sure and add MadTinus' statement to my list of great quotes.
