Anybody into Mountain Biking?

fuck you guys. ive been riding longer than youve been alive. 24 years! i think i know a thing or two.
fine. spend less than $1000 on a hardtail like tully and andrew. have fun with your heavy piece of junk. btw, pick up any magazine and the editors will be saying the same thing: "its difficult to get a decent hardtail for under $1000". i never said they didnt make them, jerks.

DG must be looking at a carbon fiber hardtail then. And yes. Under $1000 is hard... they're mostly around $1500 CANADIAN.

I don't care how long you've been riding, I still know plenty about bikes.

Thats like saying you've been using computer for the last 30 years. Oh wait... 30 years ago... they didn't htink anyone would ever have home computers.

I'm sorry dude, your information is fucking wrong. COMPLETELY wrong. He's not looking for a carbon fiber 100% perfect race bike, he wants an inexpensive bike to get started.

edit: for your second post... dude... 1. not 40 lbs 2. you're on crack 3. "Around Town" isn't mountain biking.

Well we are rambuncious young tykes who like heavy-ass fucking hardtails so we can slam 'em off bridges and stunts and shit =).

ahh i didnt see where he said, "around $500" till just now. still he aint gonna get a good $500 hardtail.
haha "carbon fiber" i never said anything about that. that shit will actually break in half while youre riding.
yeah, those bikes you posted are heavy as fuck. post their specs. i guarantee theyre way over 30 pounds. if im wrong, then i suck.
fwiw, doomcifer said he just wanted to "ride around". i didnt get the impression he and his gf were going to be doing hardcore trail riding and 4 foot drops in downtown providence. why on earth would he need one of the bikes you posted?

what the hell is going on here? i post some infomation, get fucking scalded by tully and andrew, post some more responses in my defense and i get flamed again?

The Brodie: 32.3lbs
Norco: 34
Kona: 32

Fair enough. if he wants to cruise the park trails. He can go to walmart and buy one of their "mountain bikes".

I assumed he was starting with basic trails to get used to a bike and moving on up to real mountain biking eventually.

Also. a 30 lb bike isn't that bad. Mine is 36. It's light as fuck. I rode a prototype of Josh Bender's current hardtail. 56 lbs. Bitch to lug up a hill, otherwise super easy.

Whatever dorian. You seem to have some bizarre image of biking in your head. I'll leave that to you, I'll stick with what is easy and works and is cheap.

i already knew that about you. i never said a critical word. i was pointing out that thats not what doomy is interested in. you guys in turn say shit like im fucking wrong, im insane, etc. when its you guys steering him in the direction of 40 pound freeride bikes.

dude. 30lbs and 40lbs are very differernt. I never tried to steer him toa 40 lb freeride bike. The Kona Shred is a dirt jumper, the Omega is a heavy-ish duty XC bike.

and for the record. I called you information insane. Not you. You can get nice hardtails with good components for $1200 canadian. I know thats out of his pricerange. BUt it's easy enough to pickup the frame and throw on some non-high-end components.

i think maybe youre forgetting that doomy lives on the east coast and that the riding there is completely different than where you live. tully lives there too but apparently he does hardcore urban riding stuff as hes told me as much before.
other than riding around town, doomy probably has access to trails that dont have huge drops, dowhills, etc. thusly he would be better off with a fast bike. ie NOT something that weighs in at over 25 lbs. youre steering him into something very specific and youre saying im insane for trying to keep him away from 35 pound konas

I didn't mean to poke you or anything, I have a very light schwinn homegrown XC Hardtail, that cost around 700 dollars. Theres definitly hardtails for 500 dollars that fit right into what hes going for.

Freeride bikes are definitly the best all 'round bikes though, so it isn't completely un-called-for to recomend them to somone just starting out who probobly wants to try all sorts of different terrain.
