Arcturus - La Masquerade Infernale

La Masquerade Infernale = BORING

One of those albums that for years I assumed "well I just don't get this, that's why I don't enjoy the tits off it" but then I just recently came into the knowledge that there is in fact nothing to get about it.

But I'm glad you enjoy it. :)

I don't know how anyone can call Lateralus a snooze fest, it's one of the most energetic albums I've ever heard, there is so much focus and concentration going on, it's total King Crimson worship of the finest calibre. Non-fans obviously can't handle multiple time signatures (as in, multiple played at the same time, not boring prog-wank where a 7/4 gets thrown in every 3rd measure), but calling it drab is like saying cocaine makes an excellent sleep-aid. I mean maybe it's just the musician in me who craves thinking music, but still. Boring? That doesn't make any fucking sense.

Basically... :loco:

I've really enjoyed Solefald's "In Harmonia..." album lately.

Had some interest in the Arcturus + full-time Simen as vocalist dealy, seeing as how his moments on this album were fucking amazing, but I dunno. I'm gonna go back and listen to this now and see what happens.

Man, my old posts make me cringe. I was an arrogant ass.

Anyway, I played through Arcturus' discography after playing Opeth17's stuff. Hmmm, very hit and miss. Sham Mirrors still does fuck-all for me. La Masquerade is solid with some high highs and some lows. No one can deny the power of The Chaos Path

I really like Vortex's vocals (his name sake band's album is really good imo), but Sideshow Symphonies is so uninspired, like the band didnt know what they wanted to do. They got it right in Arcturian.

I enjoyed the debut more than I remember. Good stuff and they keep it interesting.

And to Max....no, the vocals in Vargnatt are just about the worst thing ever in music. Like Milli Vanilli bad

This is one of those albums that requires attention or it'll sound boring. I still prefer The Sham Mirrors to their other stuff, and odds are I won't be getting any future Arcturus w/o Trickster G. being involved.
Finally! An old post of mine that I still agree with!

Ignore the other crap I stated herein. Ad Astra > me

The Sham Mirrors sounds like digitized icicles cutting through your brain. It's the cyberpunk version of Nattens Madrigal. The only album where CGI makes audible sound. The vinyl release is actually on LaserDisc.

I almost broke a nervous sweat reading through some of my old posts. Horrific stuff, my only excuse is that I was 18/19 when I posted a lot of the utter drivel that can be found in these old threads. I was on point in this thread, though, because.....

..... I was quite adamant that "Aspera Hiems Symfonia" is their best work when I posted way back in 2005, and this is still true. Fantastic album, but you've still managed to overlook this gem to this day, it seems.
