Are Kiss metal?

Back from the cartoon. It rocked.

Anyway aha, we seem to actually agree on some points:

"I don't think influencing other bands, as you guys were talking about, has shit to do with it"

This was exactly the point I was making as well on Kiss's part :err:

Also, I fully agreed that Priest's 80s albums ruled.

The only point on which we differ is obviously you saying Kiss is just boring repetitive rock. All of that is just opinion. I have already said that I think their music has a lot in common with classic heavy metal, and your view that their solos are boring is again simply just your opinion. I disagree. Hooray.

I personally would never include Kiss as a metal band. However, that may be due to the fact I hate them. Please don't tell me to get out.

All this bickering...

Kiss has never claimed to be Metal. Remember, their early influences were a lot of the English Rock bands, especially the Beatles.

They did inspire several artists in some of the big name bands (Pantera, Soundgarden, etc.) and also gave a lot of new bands opening slots on their tours early in the careers of these new bands which helped catapult them to fame (Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi, Queensryche, Rush, AC/DC, etc.).

While they may have simplistic riffs and writing in some of their tunes, so have some of the big Metal bands. "Hell Bent For Leather," "Black Sabbath," "Iron Maiden," are all examples of simplistic writing, both in structure and lyrical content - it doesn't make them any less of a classic.

The closest that Kiss has come to being a Metal band was from 1982-1984 after their experiments with Power Pop and Progressive lead them away from their Rock sound (and, a lot of their fanbase). Creatures of the Night, Lick It Up and Animalize were the pinnacle of their "Metalness"

good question.I'd say yes and no.if your talking the 70's stuff...well it's ahead of its time by standing the test of time.good classic hard rock!i'd say since th 82' creatures album they played some form of metal from there on out.I like kiss and the fact they have diffrent eras ie.sounds.and just for the record- priest rules!

@ sumairetsu - good post one of the best so far.

Thank you, Sir. :) I've been listening to Kiss for 28 years and watched them go through several changes in that time. I still enjoy them, but I wouldn't consider them to be a Metal band - Hard Rock, definitely, but not Metal.
