every black metal band uses standard pretty much, so that's what he'll probably say

for melodeath I'd say either C sharp like COBfan (except that the bottom C is also a sharp ), or D tuning, it's overused for sure but sounds so fucking godly.
Or try half step down, I've only ever seen it used in progressive, thrash and death metal.
