ATTENTION i have an idea sneap forum DROPBOX

i was talking to ermz about this

but sense dropbox has the ability to connect multiple users to it. we should make a giant dropbox library, that consists of samples. impulses, tutorials, templates, multiouts, presets. etc etc.

it would be very very easy to do. we just need someone to sign up for a dropbox account make a folder called andy sneap and then we request to have that folder on our dropboxes so anytime anyone uploads new samples, or impulses, they are already there. and when you invite more people you get more space. here is how i think the orginazation would go

the pros: anytime you put anything on drop box, it already downloads everything for you so no need to download it after they upload it. total convience

the con: some people might put stupid shit on there. but it wouldn't do anything unless you activated it


how to do it: just create a new dropbox account. (the host) and we all send inviations asking to connect our drop boxes to it

It's a good idea, but I think the only way it would work is to have somebody regulating content. If the main 'host' did all the uploading, or checked off everything going up there things would go a lot smoother.

You also have to think about those of us in 3rd world countries who actually have download caps and can't afford to constantly be streaming massive sample libraries on a daily basis!

Ryan, are you talking about a paid account? Because the free ones can only get up to 3 GB through invitations afaik. With samples and shit that is probably going to be full very soon.

i've seen a lot of "file host" pages just dissapear from one day to another.
it would just suck if a cool databse was built up and then just erased because the site does no longer exist...
...but in generel it's a really cool idea!

That might work.

You know, basically if we give away the username/password only to forum-regulars (i.e. people that can be trusted. ) we could all link our Dropbox-App to the same Dropbox. That way everyone would have the same Files. That would be kinda cool because if you came across a file in some thread it's already on your harddrive.

If Dropbox really should close down (and I doubt it) we would still have all the files on our harddrives.

I thought about the FTP a couple of days ago... I was wondering why I never used it and why nobody else seems to use it and it just feels like FTP is too much "hassle" or something... I don't know. Things like DropBox are just sooooo much more convenient. I like the fact that it auto updates everything and so on, it's just so comfortable.

I guess it doesn't matter for me if you take the FTP down, most things around here seem to be hosted around on different sites anyway. If we could only consolidate them, but maybe that's what we're onto in this thread

Would this DropBox method finally give us a damn chance to sort our impulses out to remove duplicates? I have like a million damn duplicates... everytime I thought someone released new impulses, it's been something they've dug up from the past which I already had downloaded It would be awesome if we all could work together to sort samples and impulses out and just clean the shit!

5 things about a sneap dropbox - 2 potential solutions

1: dropbox is known for dropping accounts if there is too much connection to files so imagine a bucket load of us accessing dropbox files (and constantly syncing) that account could get banned on day 1

2: how do we know when there is new stuff?

3: if it is going to be done i think it needs to be done like kazrog's old FTP where each member has a there own folder to fill up.

4: if we go open FTP just like kazrog were going to end up with people exploiting it for other files, applications, illegal apps and some freak could throw in child porn in there. nobody wants to have to administrate that (believe me you'll get pissed off of it in a few weeks)

5: if we do have a dropbox account (not dropbox but a company with larger space )there is no way of stopping files constantly downloading. example someone decides to throw in some session files ranging from 500mb's to 1.5gigs were constantly going to have our bandwidth raped and for people on bandwidth caps its going to cap in around 2 weeks

What can be done?

Would anyone be interested if i looked into sneap torrent files instead and try develop a seedbox - that way people can upload to the seedbox, the seedbox seeds the files and from there people can download the files.

Or another option is limewire has a friends section where you can choose to share files with mates only, all the sneap users could sign up on that and add each other and have a private file sharing network (with no illegal files naturally)
