Yeah that part was fucked. On the night I wasn't that impressed, because he is clearly inferior to Damien and Jess vocally, but watching the replay I thought he sounded amongst some of his best stuff. Seeing older footage of him shows how much they have watered him down for the mainstream though. He used to have somewhat of a rocky edge, but now he is just mainstream pop rock to a t.

Amazing how much better the winners song sounds when Damien sings it. It was very boring when Jess sang it but passable when D-Man sang it.

He is married to an Australian, which makes him Australian(ish), so you can't deny him because he is from elsewhere.
What is the world coming to when a balding 30 year old Irish guy with bad teeth wins Idol? It means the show has a little more credability, because he is an amazing singer, and easily amongst the best few the show has ever come across. Jess was also great, but Damien is better. His version of the single is better because it has a more defined vocal melody, which didn't make it so bland.
