Looking at my most played songs it's pretty obvious that I'm into this kinda thing with bands like Amorphis and Dividing Light topping them off (check out those two bands by the way)

So if anyone knows any more bands who use both (or to a lesser extent, very listenable and clear grunts, like Johan), feel free to pitch me a few names here.

Scar Symmetry, Into Eternity, Before The Dawn(kinda gothic), Dark Tranquillity (sometimes uses clean vocals), Opeth, Soilwork/In Flames :P, Wintersun

alot of these you probably know but the first three maybe not, hope this helps

Ensiferum? well not really growls...but they're definately worth listening to
Crematory...kinda gothic but still pretty listenable imho
Die Apokalyptischen Reiter...not really growling as well but they kick a** (amazing liveband)
Draconian...growls + female clean vocals

hmm...rest has already been said ^^

Edge of Sanity - Crimson & Crimson II. Nobody can combine cleans and growls as well as Dan.

Daylight Dies, Novembers Doom, Draconian, Novembre, and Opeth are some that come to mind for me.

Borknagar has screaming and clean vocals. I don't think you'll find a good Hegg growl mixed with clean vocals though.

Mhh there are too many bands using gowls/screams and clear vocals...but not in the same way. I will try to give you a few (not that famous) examples.

Viking/Pagan: XIV Dark Centuries, Festung Nebelburg, Nomans Land...

Death etc: Orphaned Land, Disillusion, Noumena, Akercocke, Deep Inside Myself

and yes, many of the so called "core" bands are doing such mixtures (Still Remains, Machinemade God, Five Finger Death Punch...)

Good recs. Scar Symmetry was the first thing that came to mind (I was listening to Pitch Black Progress last night, it's a good album), but all of those are good recs. Draconian as well.

Mikael Åkerfeldt vocals spanks Hegg out of Midgård and beyond. But Hegg is still in my top 5 vocalists list.

No.
Akerfeldt can sing of course, but his growls aren't as good as johan's - deeper, but not as clear or badass - and his screams don't even come close.
Cool dude, but Johan is a better vocalist, though Akerfeldt is generally more talented, I guess.
Also, all of Opeth's lyrics are about pussy shit like love and feeling bad. Amon Amarth sing about fucking vikings. I ask you, which is more fucking metal?

I also can't agree with you.

Hegg is just sounding good. His growls are really clear and that makes them easy to listen to.
He may lack a bit of brutality in his growling but thats not a too bad thing.

Akerfeldt is really good too but it's just more "easy-going" listening to Hegg imho.

depends on what project of mike's you're talking about. Bloodbath IMO I think he is better than Johan. In Opeth Mike's screams are amazing as well as the addition to singing but then when you compare it to Johan I think that Johan gets the point there.
