Chimaira has some decent songs musically on their 1st two albums. But when all you do is write songs about hating everything and telling everyone to fuck off, you should expect a fanbase primarily composed of middle schoolers. I seriously believe a 13 year old girl filled with teenage angst wrote all their lyrics. I stopped listening after their 2nd album so I can't speak for the rest of it but it was enough to turn me off for good.
Unfortunately I have to attend their headlining concert in order to see Kataklysm play in a week....

Novembers Doom. Why does Paul Kuhr write so sucky lyrics album after album? The great music they make doesn't deserve this. Oh yeah and Ayreon is a definite sucker. And one of my all time favorite bands, Novembre, makes terrible stuff sometimes although most of the lyrics can be tolerated.

Seriously metal is sometimes all about cheese. You get cheesy bm, dm, and certainly cheesy power metal and goth metal. So?
And of course is metalcore usually filled with angst. And why is that? Because it sells. And why does it sell? Because plenty can identify with that, even if they are only in middle school.
Complaining about this is almost like complaining about war in the news methinks.

What do you mean cheese, they write very well thought-out lyrics from personal experiences. Especially on the later albums (Six Degrees OIT, Train of Thought and the last one).
I agree the music/vocals can be cheesy sometimes though.

I find ToT kinda angsty actually. I do agree that DT have no place in this thread though. There's too many Black Metal and Power Metal bands for them to even be close
