if everyone actually nominated 32 or 64 bands or w/e then youd be able to do seedings n shit, or are you planning to just draw them at random?

I'm down to nominate 32 or 64 if it means we seed this shit. Random seems like a bad idea, but I'd love to see Slayer knockout Metallica in the 1st round.

Havok, Hatchet and Black Fast shouldn't even be mentioned right now dude. And none of those bands have more than one or maybbbbee two good albums at best. The only new school bands that should go in this early would be Vektor and Hexen. Maybe Warbringer and Exmortus but i think they can get in later.

edit: lol i like Municipal Waste, but really?

I would personally also put Sacral Rage above half the bands mentioned

So what now Jimmy? We pick a winner for each matchup and post it? Then you tally results?
I plan on tallying up all of the nominations after I finish work tonight. Aiming to get 32 of the most popular bands to feature & then we will go into a knockout competition.

I do indeed plan on seeding the bands. Was thinking of seeding them in order of most albums sold (so naturally Metallica would get the #1 seed).

If you took the best songs from both albums, it wouldn't be too far from the third-best Exodus album in quality, but that shitty Geddy Lee knock-off would still hold them back.

So is this going to be a traditional bracket single elimination dealio? Making these brackets is easy using online tools, 64 bands seems no less doable than 32 imo, and doesn't require sacrificing big names like Suicidal Tendencies and Sarcofago. Also, are we counting Celtic Frost as thrash?

Pretty good looking setup HBB. I wouldn't mind it being a 64 band competition. After tallying the nominations, it seems like 64 could very well be do-able.

So far we have 40 bands which have received at least two nominations.

And 34 bands which have received one nomination. I've also seen Sacrofago's name thrown around, but they're more death metal, aren't they?

Also, what's the consensus on Celtic Frost & Possessed?

Moving forward, we need to add 24 more bands to the list to reach 64 entrants. Anyone care to second any of the bands that have so far received just one vote?

A couple more bands worth considering could be S.O.D. & Cro-mags, but maybe they're too punk?

I'll submit my list tonight, my 64-band list is on my home computer and I don't feel like retyping it.

Personally, I think Possessed belongs since their second album is pure thrash and their first is extremely thrashy (majority thrash I'd say) even if it is also a seminal death metal album. Celtic Frost isn't really thrash to me and I think they'd do well in a death or a black metal line-up, but I have zero problem with them being included for this round, and will vote for them if others are fine including them for a thrash tournament.

Neither Seven Churches or To Mega Therion are true thrash metal albums but TMT probably belongs here not on a death or black metal list. Seven churches should go on the death metal list and that shouldnt even be a question tbh

edit: forgot were doing just the bands and not albums. I still think Possessed clearly belong on a death metal list and not really sure where to put Celtic Frost, but i dont think they belong here either.

Sarcófago is proto black metal.
CF and Possessed are more death metal than thrash. CF is , in general terms, a mix of doom, death and some "1st wave" black metal with some avantgarde elements, so they shouldn't be considered here.

Sarcofago are first and foremost a thrash metal band before you can start applying/tacking on anything else to their name. So yes, they should be here.

yea i agree but their first album is more thrash than black or death.
