Beer

I prefer the amber over the green. The green has a funky aftertaste for me.

Been recently drinking the Summer Honey Wheat Blue Moon alot on these hot summer beach days, its been treating me nicely...I tried the Apricot Hefeweizen the other day, that was interesting.

Drinking Long Trail's "Brewmaster Series" Coffee Stout right now. Feels like an imperial stout @ 8% ABV. Dark as fuck, extreme coffee flavor upfront with strong alcoholic mouthfeel. Nice pour (somewhat aggressive) with 2-3 finger mocha head. Tastes very boozy, doesn't hide it well. Good stuff anyway.

had a couple of stouts this past week...my reviews from BA:

Poured from bottle into my Celebrator Doppelbock glass. Color is pitch black. A thin brown head quickly dissipates.

As other reviewers have noted the nose and taste are pretty interesting. On the nose I could definitely smell the roasted malts and chocolate bits, but there's also a tiny bit of noticeable hoppiness on the nose. The taste confirms what you smell. The first sip is a bit of a punch in the face as the taste is pretty strong. It's not overly boozy; you would expect a beer at 10.50% to be. But the taste is definitely chewy.

Overall, this is a very, very good beer. I would never have guessed this came from New Zealand...it's not what I expected. Would I drink this again? Absolutely. I think it could benefit, however, with a year or two on it.

Had this on tap at the Stone Brewery and enjoyed it enough to buy a couple bottles of it. Here's the review of the bottle format:

Appearance is nice. Black with a brown head that quickly dissolves into a finger thin layer. Upon opening the bottle you can smell the chocolate and the faint sweetness of the cherries is hiding nicely in the wings. The pour confirms this. The first taste is nice. The chocolate and cherries are there but neither dominate each other. They balance each other; no one flavor overwhelms the palate. Definitely need to let this one warm up a bit to really enjoy it.

Overall, it's a very enjoyable brew. Very delicious, and the guys who brewed the recipe are definitely lucky and talented brewers. Cheers!

Dos Equis is the only Mexican beer worth a damn.
No, Negra Modelo is actually pretty decent; about on par with Dos Equis Amber (red label). Dos Equis green and Modelo Especial are basically the same.

Hoppy IPAday!

I had a Southern Tier Hoppe today, which is apparently an imperial extra pale ale, but close enough. Now enjoying a Spaten Dunkel, which seems to me to be new-ish to the market (maybe just the new packaging for Spaten?). Anyway, it's got a super smooth feel and nice mix of dark roasty notes and hints of fruitiness. For $8/sixer, I will buy this again. It's tough to get US craft this good at that price.

Fuck. Me. Those sound good.

Tried out Choc Beer Brewing Co. and Lake Placid Brewing Co. this past week. Choc was alright, but Lake Placid makes an awesome beer called Ubu Ale. It's a really rich beer, very malty but complemented with hops, so it has a refreshing finish.

Bohemia is pretty goddamn good in my opinion. Not that my scope of tried beers is very wide, but I think it's pretty good.

Has anyone had this?

Stone Cali-Belgique IPA

It looks amazing, combining two of my favorite styles. Just curious how well they work together.

Also, I finally had Young's Double Chocolate Stout tonight & it was very tasty. Not sure why I didn't try this sooner. I will definitely be picking it up again.

Stone Cali-Belgique is really good. It's not as intense as other IPAs. The Belgian yeast really mellows it out.

So tonight I'm having Alpine Beer Company's Exponential Hoppiness TRIPLE IPA. I've wanted to try this for years. And gents...it's amazing. Smells like a hopbomb but the taste is sweet and well balanced by the malt. At 11% it is definitely something that uh keeps you company. I'm thoroughly enjoying myself
