Best Albums of 2009 (so far)

Cool thread. Listened to some of the albums like the new Mono, good stuff.

My number one for this year so far is:

Devin Townsend - Ki

I yawned really hard at the new Gatheing album. The new singer's voice is decent and quite simlilar to Anneke's, but the songs are boring pop rock with no emotion. I like about every The Gathering album, but this new one is a borefest.

Its been a sloooow year so far for superb releases but heres what I would list:

The Prodigy - Invaders Must Die
Wolves in the Throne Room - both ep and lp
Doves - Kingdom of Rust
The Crystal Method - Divided By Night
Amorphis - Silver Bride (just about to arrive at my door step and I know its going to rock my boots off)
Black Sun Aeon

Its going to be a slow year... unless Massive Attack finally drop their new one.

Just noticed that Korlich mentioned the new Tori Amos. I listened to it and it's better than the last one at the very least.

Haven't heard the new Depeche Mode. How does it compare to their best stuff?

Also, still pissed I can't get the Exivious album - currently have no credit card to order it with, and Cynic is one of my favorite bands.

You should try to get a copy somehow, it's an awesome album. Like the good parts of Dream Theater without all of the cringe, only more futuristic sounding and given an infusion of Cynic on E. Only more jazzed up.

Mastodon - Crack the Skye
Mournful Congregation - The June Frost
Bluetech - The Divine Invasion
Blut Aus Nord - Memoria Vetusta II: Dialogue With the Stars
Devin Townsend Project - Ki
Sunn O))) - Monoliths and Dimensions
Napalm Death - Time Waits for No Slave
Kylesa - Static Tensions

so far tbh. hopefully some good non-metal releases come out this year (I haven't checked out that Mono album yet)

Saw them live recently when they came to my town (Recife, Brazil), they played a new song called Nevermore I think, it was awesome, as was the entire show. Checked their website already but couldn't find any info about a new album.

These are all great records, maybe you need them to grow on you a little bit, that is what I had to do to get into them.

Mike Patton - Crank: High Voltage soundtrack

Good call, awesome soundtrack.

The disappointment level varies on all of those releases...and "disappointment" was probably the wrong word.

Mama, I'm Swollen picks up quite well in the latter half...a few songs simply remind me too much of The Good Life.

The new mewithoutYou is about 80% totally awesome...then about 20% almost there. I'm glad they continue to evolve with each release, that part is incredibly refreshing.

Narrows' new record is a crusher, just didn't grab me quite as well as the EP.

The Number 12 Looks Like You's new record is musically the best stuff they have ever released, but Justin's clean vocals really get to me this time around.

Althought it hasnt been released, i`m pretty sure MEW already won.

I`m just waiting for August to prove that.
