Best "First Two Albums" Of Death Metal?

Was just noticing that a lot of badass death metal bands at least managed to be consistently badass for two albums straight.......but which first two were the best? I'll include some not-so-badass choices so I don't get bitched at.

Don't really give a shit about Death being on this list. Most of the stuff on it is better than the first 2 Death albums.

... and Therion, Sinister, Unleashed and At the Gates.

I would have included Gorguts, Dismember, and just mayyyybe Vader and Decapitated. And even though they played death/thrash early on i would definitley have not included Sepultura on this list because they have never been a death metal band.

Even with those missing, it would be hard as fuck to vote for one with so many bonafide classics up there. I know for sure i would narrow it down to Suffocation, Cryptopsy, Autopsy, Morbid Angel, Immolation and Atheist.

That being said, first two Death albums are a better one+two punch than anything else on here and would easily take #1.

Morbid Visions is about as much a death metal record as Piece of Time. Probably more so tbh.

Yea, Morbid Visions is just as much of a death metal record as Piece of Time and even the first Pestilence album ... but those are all clearly death/thrash, and the main difference is that all of those bands followed up with a full on death metal onslaught on their next albums, where as Sepultura has never released an album that qualifies as being straight death metal.

Yep, this is what I went with as well. The first two Incantation albums are killer stuff, even tho I do feel they have done as good and even better with some of their later efforts.

They're pretty consistent and Diabolical Conquest ranks (almost) as highly as the first two. Mortal Throne of Nazarene is my favorite. That album has a blasphemous sound that overtakes most black metal bands.

I hear you forgot death but did you forget Obituary as well? Any way for me its Carcass hands down but I'm probably the only who thinks that way. Symphonies is my fav Death metal album.

I agree with you on Death. They didn't start becoming interesting until Spiritual Healing.

I picked Suffocation. Cannibal Corpse would have been my second choice if they were on the list.

Funny. The first two Death albums arw the only ones I really love. Actually I haven't even listened to the last two Death albums yet because the direction of the band really didn't peek my interest. I don't know, Spiritual Healing, Human and Induviudal Thought Patterns are technically good albums, but a little emotionally stale, especially in contrast the visceral force of Leprosy.
