I still can't tell the difference between Grind, Gore and Death Metal. I called the Carcass albums Gore because of the subject matter of the songs. I'm guessing Exhume to Consume isn't a ballad. ;)
All I know is I like it.

I've not heard any Asphyx. I reckon I need to check them out. Where's best to start?

Yea, first two Asphyx albums are fucking top notch, would be somewhere at the top of my list.

I havent heard Thresholds, so i cant comment on that album... and Elements is one of the first progressive/technical death metal albums, so i dont know what the fuck your talking about BurgerBoy.

I cant believe there are people out there who still think "OOOH SHiT theres no Blast beats and growling not deeath metalz!"

It has basically (I'd say "exactly" but there might be one that I forgot about) no death metal riffs, single-bass drumming, is pretty mid-tempo on a whole, and overall has nothing in common with anything else I can think of that can be called death metal. It's a progressive metal album.

EDIT: And in 1993 it would have been pretty far from "one of the first".

The Rack.

UM Rule #42: If a potential poll thread could potentially have more than 20 options, DO NOT POST. 90% of responses will bitch about absent parties.

I would add Monstrosity's Imperial Doom and Gorguts Considered Dead. Phenomenal Death metal albums. Also Cancer!

well I've voted for Morbid Angel. First two albums are masterpieces.

Huh? No Cannibal Corpse? Eaten Back to Life alone is better than the majority of the albums on that list.
