Sepultura shouldn't be on here, honestly. Morbid Visions is probably their most extreme album, but it's closer to Black Metal IMO. Schizophrenia is borderline Death/Thrash. CC should be on here although I don't enjoy Eaten Back to Live or Butchered At Birth enough to listen to it as much as Tomb of the Mutilated. Eaten... is too sloppy and Butchered, while brutal, gets boring by the second half of the album. Meathook Sodomy is a good song, though. Morbid Angel should take the cake on this one. I would've voted Cryptopsy if Blasphemy Made Flesh had better production. It kinda ruined it for me. None So Vile is sex.

yes, Sepultura are one of the greatest thrash bands of all time, they definitely dont belong on this list.

Whats even funnier is that i was reading the "Renewing the Covenant" article from Decibel and came across this ridiculous statement ....

"1993... it's also the year death metals maggot infested hand breached the surface and exposed throngs of easily impressionable, adequately educated young males the unheard of sounds of Death, Sepulutra, Entomed and Carcass."

it confirmed to me that a lot of the guys writing articles and reviews for decibel seem to be nothin more than tossers. I mean did they just really lump in Chaos A.D., which has absolutley zero death metal influence, with Covenant, Individual Thought Patterns and Heartwork ? Absolutely ridiculous.

lololololol. Even saying Individual Thought Patterns is Death Metal is a bit debatable. That is pretty damn hilarious.

Way too many missing. Even if you think they are utter shit, bands like Cannibal Corpse were important in the scene. Obituary, Gorguts, and a few others definitely should not have been omitted, if based on nothing more than, as much as I hate to be the one to say it, popularity. CC is the most commercially successful "real" death metal act, and though that is a shit criteria, it does signify that they are an extremely large and integral part of death metal history.

That said, I voted Deicide, and probably would have no matter what would have been included. Their self-titled and Legion are just too monstrous and evil to ignore.

Very nearly voted Entombed, but gotta give this to Carcass. Love those two albums, and there was even better to come. Debuts don't make more impact than Reek though, and Symphonies showed how far they'd advanced in such a short time.

Are people seriously hating on Of Darkness and Beyond Sanctorum? Be upset all you want about the lack of CC or love for Necrophobic, but leave early Therion out of this. Them records were the absolute TITS son

Yeah, agree with Lateralus - the first 2 Therion albums are undeniable classics - don't know how anyone who has heard them can bust on them.

Normally agree with Technical Barbarity, but Therion's first 2 are way better than Necrophobic and i'm a Necrophobic fan.

Give them a break. Some people still think that Thresholds and Elements are death metal albums.

Yea, first two Asphyx albums are fucking top notch, would be somewhere at the top of my list.

I havent heard Thresholds, so i cant comment on that album... and Elements is one of the first progressive/technical death metal albums, so i dont know what the fuck your talking about BurgerBoy.

I cant believe there are people out there who still think "OOOH SHiT theres no Blast beats and growling not deeath metalz!"
