Currently I'm the only one who picked Deliverance. My favorite one changes at a pretty often rate, though. (three days ago it would have been Morningrise.)

I with you there - Deliverence for me; altough ive only got 3 albumns; Orchids, Damnation and Deliverence so my vote is not all that valid

It's pretty damn hard to make up my mind about this, but after some long intervalls of thinkin' my vote takes the trip to Blackwater Park where it belongs.

I think MAYH is their worst. I mean un-bestest.
:(

Listen to it more. I didn't really dig it as much when I first listened to it. Gave it about 3 or 4 more listens fully through. Took me a while to fully appreciate the album but damn its amazing.

I probably should have said this... but MAYH was the 3rd (or 4th?) Opeth album I bought and I've heard it over 15 times. I cannot explain, but I guess it's the atmosphere. A lot of the songs sound too warm for me.

Well hmm. I guess its just how the whole album flows as one for me. I guess thats why you can say its my favourite. That and April Ethereal, When and Demon of the Fall. I know its cliche to love Demon, but fuck that song is amazing. Even if it is one of their most popular and over-played songs.

You're full of shit and your opinions about debut albums suck ass. Prick.
Actually you are the one acting like the prick. People can express their opines on this and any other forum. Out of all of the forums I belong to, this one seems to have the most rude members. The guy was just expressing his opinion in a civil manner, can't you act the same. I want to be proud to be an opeth fan, not think I am a fan of a band where they have closeminded intolerant fans. :) Let's all play nice!

Yeah, Orchid is much better than Morningrise imo. But as for my favourite, definately My Arms, Your Hearse. Opeth's masterpiece. They'll never make another album as amazing as that.
Yes, that's thier BEST concept. :)

Hehe, thanks. I don't know what his problem was yesterday! I think it's because he made 2 threads about Kayo Dot and Katatonia, and I mentioned in both of them something like: "Last time I checked, this isn't the Katatonia/Kayo Dot forum" and I guess he couldn't deal with the fact that I was right. Some people!

It surprises me that Blackwater Park is far ahead of the others- I've always though it was a great, great album in general but for Opeth, i usually rank it 6/8 or something. The only flaw is I don't think Dirge for November is too outstanding, the middle section is pretty boring. The rest of the album is excellent, though. And where's all the Morningrise and Orchid love? Those albums are amazing.

Many people like the older Opeth more than Orchid and Morningrise because the first 2 are all "twin guitar harmonies" and ... well ... very little riffage. We need riffage damnit (thats why MAYH owns so hard).

That's another reason why I don't like MAYH. Orchid and Morningrise are my 2nd and 3rd favorite Opeth albums because of the twin guitar harmonies! The bass has a unique sound in some songs too.

Yeah, the bass playing rules. It's what makes them more than just your average metal band. (Mendez is also a fine bass player)

i see it differently. Dirge is a masterpiece on a rather mediocre Opeth album...

What The Fuck? Neither of the comments you made make any sense whatsoever.

I realized that it's hard to pick the "best" opeth album because all of them have their own aspects of greatness
orchid- mysterious, beautiful atmosphere, gorgeous lead guitar melodies
morningrise- outstanding classical acoustic guitar parts, heartfelt clean vocals
mayh- sorrowful mood throughout, great flow, depressing and dark
still life- great songwriting, acoustics, plays out like a classic movie
blackwater park- crystal clear production, very mature, beautiful autumn/winter feeling to it
deliverance- complex, genius arrangements, haunting lyrics and death metal vox, brutal yet beautiful
damnation- (obviously) softer side, amazing playing from every member, very creative
ghost reveries- the most mature opeth album, most songs are finely crafted and spellbinding, keyboard adds a new dimension to the heavy sound
