Songs comprise albums.

GTFO

Albums are made up of songs, but listening to songs =/= listening to albums. Listening to songs is the way pop music fans listen to music. They hear hit song onm the radio and buy album for hit song (or 45 RPM single back in the day) and play said song over and over potentially never hearing the rest of the album.

I realize that in this digital age that listening to songs has become very common for fans of every genre, but I think the song experience is inferior to the album experience. This is especially true from an artist that actually pays attention to album structure. I think Nevermore is way more powerful in album than song. Many others too.

Completely agree. Especially the quote; "the song experience is inferior to the album experience." I buy albums for the "entire" process, not for 1 or 2 songs.

While I agree with this to some degree (huge Floyd fan, refuse to put anything on my MP3 player 'cept whole albums, etc) I think that there is a time and a place for individual songs, and discussing albums allows a level of generality that discussing individual songs does not.

Ya, man I could really get into smelling her panties. Good point, though. People need to get the "whole" process to accurately understand a piece of musical art. People today want that "instant gratification" for music, you know, the 3-minute tune that just grabs them. Instead, of taking the time to fully appreciate and LISTEN to what's being conveyed. If you don't want to take the time to pay attention, well, go buy a fuckin' Toby Keith cd, and for me please run that fool over with your truck.

Yeah, songs have their place. I appreciate going to Myspace and checking out bands. But I am so album oriented that I rarely know the name of the songs on an album, and for the most part a discussion of songs is one I can't add much to (which is fine).
