Black Metal... why?

I'm longing for the darkness, tis 16:15 here atm...

So I can play my new CD that arrived today, tis Ihsahn's "The Adversary."

:D

What do you BM guys think of this release from Emperor's main man?

^It seems like he rushed it. It's more of "Ihsahn's Influences on CD" more than it is an actual album.

lmao, listen A. child's wife, you are really a pretentious arrogant little pussy aren't you? did you ever stop and think for a minute that, maybe, people may care about what sounds good and not about TEH trOO essEnce Of BlAcK MeTiL? good music is good music, shove that ''tr00'' thing up your ass
''Ignore the people who recommend later Enslaved, Ulver''
insufferable douche...

Quite a lot of baggage you have there. You misunderstand me if you think my recommendations had any concern for "troo-ness". They were to serve as an introduction to the formative foundations of "second wave" black metal, which is where I think the "essential" elements of the genre lie. I'm also disappointed that you ripped off the Don's insult.

If there is arrogance here, it is in your knee-jerk populist authoritarianism.

I think in a black metal perspective, it fails. On the other hand, in a progressive blackened metal one, it's absolutely delightful. Choose your perspective carefully.

I remember listening to a lot of bathory, sodom and celtic frost when i was a teenager and liking it a lot. BUT, i dont remember anyone EVER calling them black metal at the time (just heavy metal) , so i find it funny / interesting when they are banded as BM these days.

I will concede that i really dont mind emperor but that is about as far as it goes for me *shrugs*

There have been some excellent suggestions in the thread so far, here are some more you may want to try :

Drudkh - Autumn Aurora
Blut Aus Nord - Ultima Thulee
Diabolical Masqurade - The Phantom Lodge
Naglfar - Sheol
And Oceans - The Dynamic Gallery of Thoughts
Taake - Over Bjoergvin Graater Himmeri

There's a bit in there for everyone :)

Actually, I think Justin here is pretty much right when it comes to the "tr00" essence of black metal, since it's basically black metal in it's purest form, before bands started adding progressive sections and started experimenting with avant-garde ideas.

But what if someone judge something as "worth listening" and you do not. Who's right? Who's wrong?

Ah, truth as correct representation. Good luck trying to find "the original" with which to compare! (I leave such games to the "philosophers").

What must be evaluated is the thoughtfulness (responsibility) of judgment, its circumspection. It most cases, especially ones of great divergence, the mindful is clear.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but you think any kind of judgement whatsoever is wrong to begin with? Can you elaborate a bit?
