BM fans: why is dimmu "false" BM?

i had a brief "holy shit, dimmu is awesome" stage, but i got out of it fairly quickly once i found Satyricon and other bands that kick Dimmu's ass haha.... i'm not saying that Dimmu is horrible, just holding back the talent they have. for one, they should let Vortex do more clean vox... his work in Lamented Souls is fucking awesome. good thing Barker was able to get the hell out of there. they should get rid of Shagrath. the world would be a much better place :D

Emperor > Satyricon > Immortal > Old Man's Child > Dimmu Borgir > Mayhem > Lucifer's Dark Muffins

Ok here's my opinion, and its coming from someone who listens to Darkthrone, Burzum etc. for anyone that cares.

I like Dimmu Borgir, and I would have to agree with the melodic thrash will black metal elements statment. Going back to the original topic of this thread, I think they aren't considered "true" black metal because really they simply aren't black metal.

People are looking past the music and seeing increased production and more commercial promotion and assuming that they've sold out, thus making them "false", and thats not really how it should be seen.

I personally think the whole "true" BM idea is rediculous. If true black DID exist at one point, I think it was with Darkthrone, Burzum, Mayhem etc. in the early 90's. If I replicated their sound and used thin production today, would my band be labeled as "true"? I sure would expect it, but some people...

and yes, PEM is the shit.

the whole point of this thread wasn't arguing if dimmu are good, but whether they represent black metal in any way. a band does not have to be good to be black metal, and vice versa.

as for getting rid of shagrath, you probably could. at this point, silenoz and mustis *are* dimmu borgir. personally i wouldn't mind vortex and/or galder as vocalists.

whoever said dissection is the shit, eternal hails to you, my friend.
