Discharge were a lot more metal than punk in my opinion. And bands like Strung Out and Atreyu have such a melodic metal feel to their "punk" I wonder why they're even classified as punk, aside from being on Victory Records. Some can, just like Heavy Devy made one of the best punk songs ever in the form of "Fake Punk" but he's a genius and could play anything (note the swing metal hilarity that is Bad Devil)

Listen to some Crust. Like Nausea, Amebix, Axegrinder, Extinction of Mankind, and Misery. Has a Death metal feel to the songs. Cool shit.
