Well lyrics don't matter to me, but if they are well-written, then I applaud the band for being able to do that.

It's not that Christian bands are lame, it is just that people associate Christian music with lameness, and it is hard for people to overlook that. I personally am reluctant to try any christian metal bands, even though they are probably no different.

I think it's the fact that they label themselves "Christian" Metal is what's most lame.

I dont' care if a band's members are Christian and choose to write themes on Christianity, but it annoys me that they tout it and to say I listen to "Christian Metal"

Um, no. I wouldn't call all metal art, and definitely not all music. Would you consider [insert pop singer, rapper, etc. here] art? I definitely wouldn't. Nor would I call stupid gore lyrics art, though I still listen to bands with stupid gore lyrics. I don't listen to bands for their lyrics, I listen to them for their music. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate bands with well-written, thought-provoking lyrics, it just isn't necessary for enjoyment.

Is instrumental music pointless? No.

Look at deicide, deicide writes the most stupid anti-religious lyrics. A christian band that has cliche lyrics and deicide are the same. Lameness factor is just as evident in metal music as christianity.

Those are some great lyrics i think and not unintelligent by any means. Too many people criticizing Deicide.

That doesn't make me mad. Deicide is lame anyways, so I really couldn't care less about them. So long as a band makes good music that I like, they can write about whatever the heck they want, as far as I'm concerned.

Yeah, I was more referring to their albums other than those. I haven't heard them, but I've heard from some people that their first two are the only ones worth listening to. So maybe I'll check them out sometime.

Gore lyrics aren't art either, so yeah I agree with you. But to me lyrics are pretty nessecary for enjoyment, as in if a band has shitty lyrics I hate them, generally. I guess it's a difference in musical backgrounds, I primarily like grunge*, and the lyrics in grunge are more impotant than the istruments or at least equal for the most part.

*Nirvana excluded. They're shit, except Kurt's lyrics are pretty good.
