If you don't care about the lyrics then music is kind of pointless. Music is art. Poetry is art. Metal is art. Lyrics are art. End of story. Three word sentances.Impudent said:Lyrics don't matter.
Well lyrics don't matter to me, but if they are well-written, then I applaud the band for being able to do that.ender7227 said:If you don't care about the lyrics then music is kind of pointless. Music is art. Poetry is art. Metal is art. Lyrics are art. End of story. Three word sentances.

cookiecutter said:It's not that Christian bands are lame, it is just that people associate Christian music with lameness, and it is hard for people to overlook that. I personally am reluctant to try any christian metal bands, even though they are probably no different.
Um, no. I wouldn't call all metal art, and definitely not all music. Would you consider [insert pop singer, rapper, etc. here] art? I definitely wouldn't. Nor would I call stupid gore lyrics art, though I still listen to bands with stupid gore lyrics. I don't listen to bands for their lyrics, I listen to them for their music. Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate bands with well-written, thought-provoking lyrics, it just isn't necessary for enjoyment.ender7227 said:If you don't care about the lyrics then music is kind of pointless. The Greys said:Look at deicide, deicide writes the most stupid anti-religious lyrics. A christian band that has cliche lyrics and deicide are the same. Lameness factor is just as evident in metal music as christianity.
That doesn't make me mad. Deicide is lame anyways, so I really couldn't care less about them. So long as a band makes good music that I like, they can write about whatever the heck they want, as far as I'm concerned.Krigloch the Furry-ass said:ssshhhhhh dont make the christians mad
Yeah, I was more referring to their albums other than those. I haven't heard them, but I've heard from some people that their first two are the only ones worth listening to. So maybe I'll check them out sometime.Necuratul said:Then there's really nothing stopping you from loving the first two Deicide albums.
I actually like Immolation.Discovery said:If Deicide won't do it, how about a nice dose of Immolation.
As if they were tearing through my flesh, it was embedded in my mind
That Jesus died for me...How foolish can they be
As if they were tearing through my flesh, it was embedded in my mind
Jesus didn't die for me...
Jesus died
How foolish can they be to worship such a king
Who was crowned and hung between two thieves

OK, I can understand that. I would call some metal art, some is just shit in my opinion. I wouldn't call popular music art at all, maybe some rap could be poetry, but not the shit that's popular. Gore lyrics aren't art either, so yeah I agree with you. But to me lyrics are pretty nessecary for enjoyment, as in if a band has shitty lyrics I hate them, generally. I guess it's a difference in musical backgrounds, I primarily like grunge*, and the lyrics in grunge are more impotant than the istruments or at least equal for the most part.Impudent said:Um, no. Is instrumental music pointless? No.

*Nirvana excluded. They're shit, except Kurt's lyrics are pretty good.
