Controversial opinions on metal

Yyrkoon kicks ass.

Also, as far as the whole groove metal thing goes...good groove albums are the ones by Pantera, Exhorder, Down, etc. and Chaos A.D. and Nailbomb's album. There's also Wolverine Blues and the Machine Head catalog, save their 3rd and 4th albums, and bands like Chimaira, Devildriver, Lamb of God, Fear Factory, etc. etc. that can be called metalcore or industrial metal or whatever you goddamn choose...

The point is that there's nothing wrong with a killer riff played at 'halfspeed,' because not every album needs to sound like "The Burning of Sodom" to be good.

As far as black metal goes, I find 99% of it to be monotonous fuzz in comparison to something like the last 30 seconds of "I'm Broken" or "Territory." 'Atmosphere' and pointless ideological dissertation come far second to a rollicking good midtempo skullcrusher riff set. The grand populist that I am, I find far more merit in a catchy tune with a universal theme at its core than an esoteric fucknut's bedroom national socialist wet dream if the sonic quality of the latter sounds like a blowdryer on the low setting.

The best part about this entire discourse...this entire thread? The word opinion is built in. Opinions, the great egalitarian constructs that they are, seldom require justification to exist, but often could use some for legitimacy. So here's mine, jizzsuckers!

I wasn't particularily agreeing with him, but it was a well phrased
personal opinion, moderately seasoned with angst, wit and personal charm, so as not to seem overwhelmingly offensive, and I think even the most elitist of fuckwits among us got the gist of it.

Fuck the troll. From Mars To Sirius is a killer album.

Gojira are good. Both the Link and From Mars to Sirius are great albums. Their live performance is awesome (check their DVD - The Link Alive). Can't wait to see them live and I'm really looking forward to their new album.

Sun O))) I one of those bands I just can't get into. I'm not saying they suck, but they're certainly not for everyone (actually, no band is).

Same here, I can't get into their sound, but I do respect it. Some sick stuff.

Now, some controversial opinions:

- Reinkaos (Dissection) is a great album. Trouble is, people expected a new Somberlain, or a new Storm of the Light's Bane. It's different, yet a great Metal album (great guitar work btw)

- Tech Death can be great, you just need to listen to the right bands (Necrophagist, Anata, Decapitated, Gorod, Psycroptic, Gory Blister, Atheist)

Sunn are the worst band known to mankind. The Shaggs are fucking gods compared to these useless faggots.

In traditional stupid metal argumentation style:

DUDE WHERE ARE YOUR FACTS TO SUPPORT THIS

That said,

No. Korn and SOAD are probably among the worst.

It's futile trying to argue, or even figure out for yourself, who the worst band ever is. But IMO there is plenty worse than Korn or SOAD (this seems to indicate we are including non metal bands). Puddle of Mudd and Fuel are two bands that are worse, right off the top of my head.

Erudite as ever Nick, well said - albeit I wouldn't have used the the Sepultura or Pantera albums as reference points.

I would have used perhaps, one of the most under rated and infectious albums of all time: Floodgate - Penalty.

Of course. It's probably some unsigned band consisting of high school kids who just started playing their instruments, trying to sound like the alt rock that is popular at the moment. But talking in terms of signed, somewhat known bands....

Found them. They're from a town a few miles from mine, my ex dated their drummer. They may not have just started their instruments but it sounds like it.

I would honestly rather listen to this than Sunn O)))
