Controversial opinions on metal

Nile has been around for 16~17 years... That's long enough for me to accept their image isnt really a gimmick any more, unless all death metal lyrics not dealing with gore/violence/satan are a gimmick.

Karl Sanders releases ambient egyptian themed albums, they are fairly high quality, and I think he takes a lot of pride in them. It's not just "added in" imo.

Their lyrics and imagery are also fairly violent and always dark.

Karl Sanders has never been to Egypt.

On the other side though, I would definately not call Nile uninspired and unoriginal. I don't listen to them often but I don't get where all the hate is coming from tbh.

Never understood the hype around Alcest either.

THIS.

tbh I can kind of understand 80's hate, as it was a bit of a deadzone for the more progressive forms of music, and was when MTV was a very dominating force. For traditional metal the 80's were obviously king, but aside from the biggest names, most of the best thrash was released in the early 90's.

Is someone actually saying they don't like the 80s as an era for metal? :(

That's just not right; the birth of thrash then old school DM near the end, NWOBHM, loads of great trad stuff. It was the pinnacle!
