Controversial opinions on metal

You don't have very good reading comprehension skills, eh? I didn't say that d00d.

Cryptopsy's change (in my plan) has nothing to do with appeasing the masses. It has everything to do with getting hardcore kids directly from mtelcore into technical death metal, a genre that a lot of metalheads even find hard to like. Not only does it bring people deeper into metal without all the steps, I like the idea of people being indoctrinated into metal by a legitimately legendary band.

But it still involves compromising their sound, so I again I ask: why? Why do I care whether 'hardcore kids' are listening to metal or not?

Well, I wouldn't call it compromising their sound since they apparently did it already of their own accord. And I'm the furthest person from anyone who thinks a band should stick with their original sound, I think that's weak. I like when bands change it up.

It's not like I desperately want Cryptopsy to happen according to that plan. I just think it would be really interesting. I don't care what people listen to but I think it would be very cool for a legit legend to bring new people into the underground stuff by essentially playing the mainstream for their own purposes, taking advantage of it. To me, saying "the first metal band I listened to was Cryptopsy" sounds a lot cooler than most of the potential alternatives, because even great bands like Metallica and Slayer don't have the underground aspect, let alone the fact that they've never played anything as intense as tech death. I guess Cryptopsy probably won't be considered "a legit legend" anymore after this but to me they will always retain their cred.

I don't think that the pioneer bands are always the best but it is pretty stupid to think that they're not the benchmark bands.
Touche. True. But only if you're comparing one band of a similar style to another. What's the point in that?
I give credit where it's due for sure. Pioneers should have all kinds of headwear tipped to them, but being the first & a household name doesn't mean they are the best or the only one(s) worth listening to... that was "nuts", if you will, of my point.

But he probably thinks you're irritating and boring as shit. What's the point in agreeing?
:p

hahaha!! OK, that point was hammed up to fit the 'controversial' theme... but it is true that a large percentage of metalheads I seem to come across are either meatheads, or fuckwits... or both.
Prove me wrong fuckers!!! :p

I hate you already, although I do agree on a couple points. (It's alright, you'll hate me too.)

 I like anyone who can hate anyone else based on one post!! (No I'm not taking the piss... I'm judgmental too.)

I like Testament - The Gathering.
I like some Slipknot.
I like Lamb of God.
I like Empalot. A lot.

And Justice For All is pretty much unlistenable. shitty production, overlong songs and few memorable moments. I'd happily take the S/T and Load over it.

Anthrax never topped Fistful Of Metal.

The only poor Megadeth release is The World Needs A Hero - Risk was solid

The X Factor was one of the best albums Maiden ever did.

While we're on Maiden, No Prayer For The Dying > Seventh Son

Deep Purple were a more important influence on metal than they'll ever get credit for

Dehumanizer is an amazing album

Black and death metal bands have virtually zero songwriting talent. Most of them just make minute variations on a very obvious formula, and the emphasis seems to be much more on sound than on actual music.

Dunno whether this is controversial or not; but judging by his work with Ozzy, Zakk Wylde is one of the shittiest guitarists I've ever heard. Wah-wah and pinch harmonics get really old after the 3454574th time.

Dehumanizer is an amazing album
Hell yes. One of Sabbath's best, IMO.

I dunno how you can say you prefer Load, to And Justice For All though... :erk:

I disagree.

Load was a good album, IMO. Up to Bleeding Me, it's solid. the rest of the stuff on there is pretty meh, although The Outlaw Torn was brilliant.

the only tracks that really stick with me from AFJA are Blackened, One and Harvester Of Sorrow.

Fair enough. I can't stand any song off of Load, it has that... "redneck" vibe that just puts me off of the whole thing.

And on the opposite end of the spectrum, the only song I don't absolutely love off of Justice is Eye of the Beholder.

I think this applies to black much more than death, unless you're listening to brutal Christcuntdeathfuckshitporncore.

Burzum's 'Filosofem' is vastly overrated and just mediocre

'South Of Heaven' is the only Slayer release i really enjoy nowadays

never been a Megadeth fan

Steve Wilson and Thom Yorke have shitty vocals
