Controversial opinions on metal

There's a couple Immortal albums I could say are there best. Sons of Northern Darkness, At the Heart of Winter, and I really enjoy Blizzard Beasts and Diabolical too. And Damned in Black. Fuck, they're all good stuff.

i just find holy diver pretty much boringly predictable. i love rainbow and bits of heaven and hell on the other hand.

I think the album as a whole isn't that great, but there are a few unbelievably awesome songs on it.

You seem like a sensible young lady.

It does, however, pain me how the general consensus of this forum has slowly shifted towards the "open-minded", acceptive mindset in which things like commercialism and overt accessibility is glossed over and/or ignored like it was a non-issue.

But oh well...

lol

Cause overt accessibility is always a horrible, horrible thing.

I know what you mean, however, this shift is natural, especially for people who listen to other stuff outside of metal. As you discover more music that fits various mental states, the appreciation for old-school extreme metal albums is likely to gradually fade away, since they tend to be pretty inflexible in mood(dark, bleak, depressing). And I can relate to that, as some necrotic gems still tickle my fancy with their nifty technicality, while others just feel bland.

Also, accessibility doesn't immediately translate to mediocrity just mass appeal. I do think that the awfulness of certain "sell-out" albums is grossly overstated. There may be a plethora of old-school heavy metal classics that are just as polished, accessible and streamlined as say, Metallica's self-titled, yet they're held in higher regard by old-school veterans simply because they were released during the 80s.
