Controversial opinions on metal

I gotta be honest, I pirate shit. I wish I didn't because it pisses people off, but hey, I'm fackin broke and needed my tunes. I lost my hard copy collection once, it sucked.

Should I just not be allowed to listen to stuff unless I pay for it? If my phone had youtube, I'd just stick a playlist on when I'm at work, and that's totally accepted. Way I see it, artists get their support plenty of other ways like merch and shows.

I do really miss having hard copies, but it is not feasible right now. And us broke people need music more than anyone haha.

Anyone with the title of "Christsodomizer" needs pussy. Badly.

I disagree. Clearly they need CHRIST ANUS instead.

Controversial opinion:

1. Pantera, Meshuggah, Cannibal Corpse, Cradle of Filth and Opeth were some of the greatest tragedies to befall metal as (a) they dumbed it down and (b) they substituted image for substance.

2. Venom is NWOBHM.

3. Very little "progressive" metal is actually progressive. In fact, most of it is the opposite: repeated tropes from lite jazz bands.

4. Metalcore, shoe-gaze, post-metal, indie-metal are derived from late hardcore and emo (Rites of Spring, Jawbreaker, Fugazi) and not metal.

4 is dumb. Metalcore is Gothenburg death with core toughguyisms and weirdness and no fucking shit shoe gaze isn't metal. (Indie metal isn't a thing so I have no clue what you even mean there)

Food for thought: I'm friends with tank crimes records on facebook. He just recently sold 1000 records (not CDs, vinyl is all he mentioned) in a week's time and was celebrating and talking about releasing tons more stuff. If a small label can do that, gives me faith the hardcopy isn't dead. (Oh and if you buy his stuff you get the mp3s for free)

That is fucking awesome. What kind of stuff do they release?

There is all kinds of free internet radio and streaming services out there. Hell, Spotify has a free version if you don't mind commercials.

Plus, you'd be surprised for what you can buy used CDs for. Sometimes you can get them for literally pocket change. I know it takes a bit more time to find those deals than most are willing to spend, but just mentioning that it's out there.

EDIT: I hope your financial woes come to an end quickly, man. That sucks.

Thanks, yeah if I had a phone that could support apps I'd be all about some rhapsody or something. But it was a 30 dollar phone five years ago haha. The thing barely gets internet.

Someday, I will begin amassing my collection once again.

Doubt that it matters where black metal is derived from since it is such a poorly defined genre that it could well be anything. Even the most fringe bands can be considered black metal if they only throw in a couple of riffs and some shrieks; no matter if 90& of their music consists of folk or ambient sounds.

The whole genre is basically an amusement park, complete with it's house of horrors.

Black metal is awesome (see on this forum this opinion is controversial because everyone hates it)

I thought this forum was for "underground/true metal" AKA not for sissy little faggots.

This forum used to be primarily black metal and osdm listeners. It's changing for sure, but the people that like black metal are still here, I assure you. Just a bunch of lousy trolls as of late...

Black Metal is probably my favorite thing ever.

Like Krow said, there's still plenty of Black Metal fans. I have to think at least half of the GMD regulars are Black metal fans. The people who hate Black Metal are either trolls, or guys like HamburgerBoy, who don't like anything outside of penises. TBH, I don't even know what Hamburger likes music wise.

Yeah, black metal is probably my favorite sub genre. So much can be done with it.
