nah. i rambled
here about how highly i rate early slayer (specifically HELL AWAITS in this case), and i don't think it's an especially controversial standpoint - despite their mainstream success there aren't many bands more widely revered in the underground. there are very few bands who've composed so many passages that stink of once-in-a-generation genius. metal has never been so fundamentally violent, intense, vividly blooksoaked as their second and third albums; i think they come closer to defining the essence of extreme metal than anyone since. and speed metal arguably never achieved a higher ratio of great riffs than that of SHOW NO MERCY.
