Well I don't know how to construct a poll, but I just wonder which you all prefer if given a choice: Deliverance or Damnation.

I go with Damnation, it doesn't have the cheesey growls and the songs seem way more atmospheric and emotional. Deliverance I feel is a bit funny at times (music & growling). Just wondering what the rest of yous thought.

I'm gonna have to go with D.

Damnation, that is. I really like the Deliverance song, but the rest of the album wasn't as good. Though, Damnation was kinda repetitive.

I like both. Damnation was my first Opeth (I had been told to get some Opeth, just happened to get Damnation) and, though it wasn't what I was expecting, I liked it. Reminded me of the Moody Blues sort of. Next was Deliverance, so they're what I associate with discovering Opeth. If I really had to choose, it'd be Deliverance. I guess it depends on why I'm listening to Opeth, though. Each of their albums satisfy something different.

Deliverance .... I like Damnation, but like someone said, it's a bit too repetitive, I like Porcupine Tree more if I want that sort of music for an entire album.

and cheesy growls?? ... I'm guessing you have none of the other albums? Opeth IS and will ALWAYS be a death metal band! ;)

Deliverance!

I can't believe that so many people doesn't like it! It awesome! It's got everything: from heavy riffs, cool solos (often two per song - respect), well-performed lyrics & growling to those mellow parts you die when you hear. I like all the songs on Deliverance.

I'm a die-hard Opeth fan and I like Damnation as well. But it's a bit to mellow for me and for Opeth I think. But don't get me wrong it's a professional and extremely beautiful album. I sorry because the best song on Damnation - "To rid the disease" - I've recently learned, is directly taken from Dan Swanö. Ofcuze it's not the same song, but the chorus is very similar.

If you want to listen to Opeth at its best listen to Still Life, Blackwater, Deliverance and Ghost Reveries!

/period! :)

Well... Actually the project, Sörskogen, with the song "Mordet i grottan", was a joint project between Dan and Mikael. If I remember right, Mikael did write the song. Helluva good song.
