Dark Tranquillity winter tour

Best gig of my fucking life! This one topped last December's show no trouble. I did indeed get the set list (and Henriksson's pick! - although that went walkabout almost immediately *sad face*), and it went as follows:

Hours Passed in Exile
Lost to Apathy
Zodiackyl Light (sic)
(Out of Nothing) - crossed off
(Indifferent Suns) - crossed off
Monochromatic Stains
The New Build
The Wonders at Your Feet
Damage Done
ThereIn
Senses Tied
(To a Bitter Halt) - crossed off
Punish My Heaven
My Negation
Final Resistance
(Ex Nihilo) - a short section played as they left

I loved every minute of it. I got the front, and during HPIE, Mikael saw my (HPIE) shirt, smiled, pointed at me, and started singing at me. He did that quite a lot throughout the rest of the set. It was the best feeling when I knew all the words and could sing along with him, and I think (although this is probably the fanboy in me speaking) that he appreciated it too, given how the crowd seemed so apathetic to them (there were indeed shouts for Chimaira on a worryingly regular basis, and the girl next to me kept shouting for them at the top of her voice - I might add I met her randomly before the gig - she came over, asked if I was looking forward to Chimaira, and I said I was looking forward to Dark Tranquillity and might leave after them. She gave me a dirty look, turned around, and walked off. Silly girl).

The coolest example of this was when ThereIn was starting, and Mikael came over and asked me "you know his one, right?". Naturally I gave a *very* positive response.

My Negation was my least favorite song of the set. I like it on CD, but it slowed everything down a little too much imo (although I was glad to have seen it live). However, it did perfectly set up the (now standard?) ending of Final Resistance, which fucking ripped!

Afterwards, Henriksson gave me his pick (which, as I said, went missing afterwards, much to my dismay), Mikael came over to me and shook my hand for a while, and Brandstrom came and did the same (although in this case, he came from the back just to shake my hand and then go again *very happy face*).

I was given the setlist by a security guy (having asked him at the start if he could get it for me. That guy ruled for two reasons:
1) He got me the set list
2) Straight after, he said to the girl next to me "y'see, *he* liked them, why couldn't you?!"

I hung around both inside and outside for a while, hoping to meet the band, but to no avail. The merch girl said that they rarely came out after their set, and that they didn't even go to the after-show party the night before. There were no signs of life around their bus either.

Speaking of merch, they were selling the skull hoodie, Lost to Apathy shirt, a tour shirt with the site's splash page on the front, and "a show of character" tourdates on the back (also in a longsleeve version with the minds I logo on the right hand sleeve), a girly logo shirt (I think with just the band name on the front, but I may be wrong), and a Character shirt, with a coat of arms on it, with "dt" and "character" written in it. Quite an unusual one for them (it was available in maroon with yellow printing, or black with (I assume) white printing).

Guh, I'm sorry if I sound like a right fanboy after all that, but it was just an incredible night for me. Really awesome.

It was nice to randomly bump into King Chaos beforehand, too. His Haven shirt tipped me off that he might be a board member.

is this any of the shirts whe've seen before or something new?

Just the same cityscape (with the band name above it) thats been around for a year or so.

(And I've edited that typo)

@Selig. I hate you!!! haha. That's the fan boy in me speaking ;) :p. I didn't really get any interaction with the band, but it didn't matter too much, I still enjoyed the show, still, would have made it a bit more special.

I ended up third row back in a proper crush next to one of the widest motherfuckers I've ever seen, but I was thrashing out nonstop and singing along, so a few people around me seemed to get a bit more into it. I had one freind with me who hadn't really heard any of the bands and is more into doom and black metal, and he came out saying "Everything by chmaira is the same, even if it's not the same exactly, there's absolutely nothing special about any of it and no song is distinguishable except for the lyrics." I agree... He said "Hatesphere had good riffs and an energetic show, but their drummer only knew two beats." which I agree with. And he said Dark Tranquillity blew his mind and now he knows why they're my favourite band. He felt ashamed that he hadn't heard of them sooner.

Anyone who went for chimaira and didn't show any respect for DT are clearly just mindless moronic cunts who are star struck by Chimaira's celebrity and not their music. DT's show completely blew every other bands away

Nice pics...

Yeah, it was a shame I was feelin ill... I would have been shouting more and stuff. It was really hurting my throat to just sing along but I gave it my best go. Now i'll have to wait another year or so for another band I like to do a gig in Manchester... lol

ok, thanks. suspected that. do you happen to remember about how much they took for the skull hoodie?

Alright, I saw them in Sheffield. Me and my mate arrived with about 15 minutes of Hatesphere left to run, we put up with that impatiently.

DT were playing for around an hour, the playlist was like all of the others posted except for no Therein. Very disappointed by no Sun fired Blanks, Insanity's Crescendo or Lethe but thems the breaks. The sound wasn't amazing, the guitars were a bit muted at first and the keys were probably too far in the background. The performance itself was ace, although the crowd needed a slap.

That said, we didn't even bother waiting for Chimaria so I shouldn't be too arsey.

£30 :erk: . I was going to get a tshirt, but they were £5 more than they should have been. Fucking Roadrunner.

I wasn't sure whether I'd bother getting any merch 'cause I don't have much money, but when I saw how many Chimaira t shirts were being worn it made my mind up. Although I wasn't looking too hard, I only saw a few DT shirts in the crowd, one of them not a tour one.

Yesterday in Paris:

I was a bit disapointed because the sound really sucked depending on where you were. Took me 5 songs to find a place where the sound was "ok".

Also, too much use of smoke, personally i dislike that.

The setlist was :

Hours Passed In Exile
Lost To Apathy
Zodiackyl Light (sic)
Out Of Nothing - NOT PLAYED
Indifferent Sun
Monochromatic Stains
The New Build
The Wonders At Your Feet
Damage Done
Therein
Senses Tied
To A Bitter Halt
Punish My Heaven
My Negation
Final Resistance

Despite the not good enough sound (it really happens way to much at DT shows...there is something to be done...), i was pleased to see some Character song out (that i had heard 4 times already) as well as some song like Treason Wall that we heard a lot. I dont understand why they chose not to play Out Of Nothing tough, and why they seem not to play Dry Run...
Ah, and Final Resistance begin to be as ordinary than Treason Wall, so maybe finishing with Of Chaos would have been better (ok i stop dreaming, they will never play it in France  )

Could have been mine... although mine is sort of a tour one... from 4 years ago.... that I bought off a site.

I take it you went to Sheffield as well in the end then? How did it compare to teh Manchester date (having been at both)?

@Selig: I thought he was talking about manchester :(... I didn't go in the end. was all sold out. I only really wanted to go to try and meet the band and get stuff signed, but if they've been hiding after playing then I dunno, I guess there wasn't much point. But Manchester show was pretty much spot on sound wise... Maybe more cymbals and sundins guitar in the mix. Everything else seemed fine. Weird that they're sucking ass everywhere else.

@Killermic: Their setlist is a bit weird I agree. Dry Run should definately be in there, as should The Endless feed (especially with the type of audiences they are playing to (idiot numetal kids who need something heavy) ). I think it's ok that they play Final resistance though... that song is a classic. Wish they weren't crossing Indifferent Suns off, that song is magtatstic.

I hope this tour doesn't kill their spirits before going into studio for the next album. It's not been a very good way to cap off an otherwise awesome year for them. :erk:

They played To a Bitter Halt!? You lucky, lucky shit...

Seconded!!! Seriously, wtf, they didn't play To A Bitter Halt OR Indifferent Suns at the London gig, and that would've made the gig so much better.....now I'm pissed off :(

Now imagine you got THE SONG you want but cant hear a thing :( That s the feeling i got with Zodijackyl Light
