Dave/Adrian... underrated or just another guitarist(s)?

Those two are great it Janick that's dead weight & average at best...

Yeah I agree... if Janick wasnt in the band Maiden would probably return to their 80's glory.. but in a way i respect Maiden for not getting rid of him like other bands would of... though Janick should quit and maybe start his own band...

Janick is underrated, but not as good as Dave or Adrian. Maiden's decline has nothing to do with line up, it's all about the writing.

if you add a new member to a band's lineup who wasnt part of the original "classic" lineup I think that would affect a band's writing because that new member's playing style will make the band's sound different... <shrugs> .. so take out Janick and sound goes back to the "classic" 80's sound most of us liked...

I don't think they are underrated actually. I have read/heard a lot of people refer to them as both very good.

From my point of view, they are both interesting to listen too, and just plain talented. Also, Maiden has always had just perfect guitar sounds/tones. Really, it's just uncanny.

K.K. Downing and Glenn Tipton, now they are OVERrated. I like Priest, but never thought either of them was particularly amazing.

IMO Janick ain't worth dusting the shoes for Dave and Adrian guitarwise...
He may be a nice guy that gets along very well with the band, but his playing is awful and totally unnecessary with Adrian back in the fold. He's probably the luckiest guitarist in the world, playing like that in such a great band. :)

OTOH, Dave and Adrian are my childhood heroes. Always had a soft spot for Adrian, faved him over Dave for his more thought out melodic solos and especially for his songwriting skills. I must be thankful forever to both of them for unconsciously teaching me how to play and layer harmonies... :worship:

Agreed 100%. Keeping him was one of the classiest moves the rock world has ever seen!

Although I HATE most of his solos, Janick writes great stuff! He's had his hand in some of the better tunes the band has released over the course of the past few albums.

I fully endorse this message ;)

As for Adrian/Dave...well put it this way. I celebrate my birthday hearing my two favorite Iron Maiden albums "Killers" and "Piece Of Mind". It doesn't matter how many times I hear them the guitar work, the riffs, the solos make me shiver like hell.
The feeling, the energy, the melody, the quality of the guitar playing. I'm not going to argue regarding the newer IM production, but their classic material is awsomely fine.

One more proof, please anyone search for the "Stars" single recorded for Dio and other people for the African hunger, in the rooster of musicians check who plays all the basic guitar melodies and/or see the video of the making off, we talk later...

I think that Dave and Adrian are very underrated. They have always been great guitarist and never have gotten the respect they deserve! Not only is Adrian a great guitarist but also a great songwriter.

I think Adrian/Dave are excellent... I just happen to prefer Tipton/Downing (and in the 80s, I'd also rank DeGarmo/Wilton up there with these two duos)

Well said Wyvern :)
I can't get enough of listening to those two, amazing guitarists. They're very close to the top of my personal favourites list.

As for Jannick.. I reckon they should either kick him or leave him as a rhythm guitarist, he's fine at that it's just his sloppy solos that are bad and even worse when played live.
