Dave/Adrian... underrated or just another guitarist(s)?

Well I think I am about to piss a bunch of people off but here goes.......


Adrian and Dave had absolutely brilliant harmony leads and licks. They also were more technical in their rythms than most of their counterparts at the time. They were underrated in Some ways...... Now for the negatives.

They had NO power. I can name prog metal bands that have "heavier" guitar than IM. Their rythm section and vocalist supplied the power for them. There are a few songs that are exceptions as they were a diverse band, but they never had a rythm guitar sound tyhat laid me back in my seat like Priest and the almighty Accept.

I think that Dave and Adrian are very underrated. They have always been great guitarist and never have gotten the respect they deserve! Not only is Adrian a great guitarist but also a great songwriter.

I think they've always gotten the respect they deserve among metalheads. Now, when Guitar World or Rolling Stone make those Top 100 Guitarists lists, that's something else - they always end up way behind Morello or Cobain I like Dave a bit better than Adrian tho, not quite sure why. I don't play guitar or anything, so I probably don't know what I'm talking about

I never thought about the 70s or 80s Priest guitar sound as very heavy, it's pretty much in the same vein as Maiden, I even don't like it as much. Sure, Piece Of Mind has one of the hollowest riff sounds ever, but what about Powerslave, Killers or TNOTB? They're examples of how a natural, good ol' guitar should sound... Accept definitely had a rawer, raunchier sound than Maiden, but I feel their sound fit them well as Maiden's did for themselves. I could never imagine Maiden having a brickwall sound like Iced Earth or whatever...
As far as prog bands guitar sounds are concerned, there are plenty who have a modern relatively heavy sound (Andromeda or Spiral Architect, not to mention DT and Symphony X), so I'm not really sure what your point was...
