So you'd suggest downloading software updates and burning them to CD on another machine... that still doesn't mean you'll be immune to spyware, worms, viruses etc. This is a lot of trouble to go to for little or no gain.

Think about it a little bit more and you find the answer yourslef.

Not quite sure what you mean by port plug, but essentially that's what a USB key is, a little thing you need to have in one of your USB ports in order for the program in question to work. It's a security thing...

Isnt a dongle a port plug, I remeber having to use one on some Amiga 500 games???

Yes! Another Amiga user! Man... those were the days... I loved my Amiga 3000... Bars & Pipes was actually a kickass MIDI sequencer and it had some features that no modern DAW app has yet replicated. And if you remember Sunrize Studio 16, it was way ahead of where Pro Tools was at the time, and it seamlessly synced up with Bars & Pipes. Amazing stuff...

Yeah I had some dongleware on the Amiga. Dongles on the Amiga went in the joystick port. Modern dongles are USB based. I also had a Cubase dongle (before Cubase did audio, it was just a MIDI sequencer) on my 486 based PC laptop back in '95 that went in the parallel (LPT1) port.

Pro Tools is only available if you own DigiDesign or M-Audio M-Powered hardware. It is bundleware only. Nice going, pirate! :loco:

There are two low-cost versions of Pro Tools, namely Pro Tools LE and Pro Tools M-Powered. Both products require you to own DigiDesign or M-Audio hardware.

  • Pro Tools LE is bundled with the DigiDesign MBox, Digi 002, and Digi 002R.
  • Pro Tools M-Powered is sold as standalone software but requires you to own M-Audio hardware that displays the M-Powered logo, for example the Firewire Solo and FireWire 410 that I have suggested to you before.

This is as cheap as you can go to get into Pro Tools! For a full list of budget Pro Tools hardware, go here:

don't forget Pro Tools Free. you don't need hardware for that and it's free of cost.... but actually the "Free" in the name refers more to "free of functionality" i think... lol
