Day 1 quick rundown

Blacksmith - really excited to see these guys. Lots of energy but set list wasnt the best pick. Why cover a Black Sabbath song when you have some classic songs you could have played instead?

I certainly agree on the set list. As for moving; you did notice the bad hip right? And with the stage covered with water that might not have been a good idea to move to much. Can't explain what is going on with Malcolm, just too much energy in that guy. This dude used to do back flips across stages like that.

Had no clue the stage was covered with water.

Yeah that guy was a dick. He walked up to Al, myself and another guy and started making fun of Al's Scale The Summit Shirt calling math metal gay and shouting speed metal! speed metal! Idiot.

Haha wow. I also saw which guy you guys mean and he definitely had some kind of cool-guy attitude going on, but I didn't interact with him.

I honestly did not see anyone in a ghost in the ruins tshirt on Saturday. There was one guy I saw around who I was thinking "I wonder if that's Jasonic from the board?" but I don't think it was you. Sorry man.

There was one guy from Boston who showed up out of nowhere for Brocas Helm only. I did not see him for the whole rest of the weekend, had no idea he was there.

Pharaoh, Borrowed Time, Wizard, Brocas, Skull Fist, Stone Magnum were all really good, with Pharaoh being my musical favorite and Wizard being my live-show favorite. Virgin Steele also surprised me at how good they were. I admit to being impressed.

I was told that one of the Stone Magnum dudes is also in the black-ish metal band Kommandant who are on tour with Horna later this summer, so I'll see that guy again in Boston in about a month.

the singer Nick is in Kommadant. He just joined Stone Magnum 3 months ago and added much needed intensity to the band. Kommadant are fun to watch but not my thing.

Bob's observations are spot-on (see, it can happen).

I have to wonder about some of the people who came to this thing. One guy in particular had the full-on patched vest and Maiden/Manilla Road tattoos, but spent the whole fest either smoking outside or at the bar, and in between he kept acting like a jackass on the stairs. I never once saw him actually watch a band. Is this the metal version of a hipster, where obscure back patches are enough to establish your credibility?

I think you just need the vest to get cred any patches will work; maybe the singer of that one band could tell us how it works. HAHA
Ok I have to say it and as much as I hate to use such a juvenile term; that was the most poser fuckin act I have seen in a very longtime.
Back off of the track; the picture Bob got of Manilla Road guy getting tossed out is great.

Yeah, I was there wearing a Ghost In The Ruins shirt.

Kommandant was one of the most disturbing bands I ever saw live.
I really hope I never see them live again. Ha!
Musically, they are ok if you are into that thing.
Just find their presence disturbing.
Though, I suppose the band might find that to be a compliment.

I dont like thier music but LOVE their look. great all around on that aspect.

In regards to the hipster bro in the Manilla Road vest. He's not a hipster. He's good friends with many people in the scene. He was acting like a fucking retard though.

My complaints are the same as everyone elses. Mojoes fucking sucks. The no re-entry rule for minors is fucking stupid. The upstairs drinking really pissed me off, so much that I refused to drink at the venue. Instead, I walked back to my car and crushed a few beers in between bands.

Virgin Steele and Wizard were the highlights for me. Steele's sound was pretty solid, just those fucking vocals were low. Still, they played an amazing set. Wizard aren't the best band on CD, but in a live setting they are just too fucking fun. They are one of those perfect festival bands, I just wish I was up front with a few thousand other people behind me shouting "HAMMER, BOW, AXE AND SWORD!"

Overall though, I was happy and content with the fest. Really sad that it won't be happening again. I was hoping see Manilla Road or Attacker or someone else next year.

For me the highlight of day one was Voltax by far, I have followed them for a few years now and never thought I would ever see them live such energy and passion live! Really nice guys to hang around with and jam metal. Also I really enjoyed Virgin Steels set, I had never seen them before and was glad to hear them play some house of atreus stuff. As for the turn out well In Michigan Blondies charges 25 bucks just to see Accept or just to see Saxon, and it seemed like there were more people at those shows in tiny Blondies. Maybe it was just bad timing in regards to the turn out? Despite the trouble with the turn out though I met some great people, this miltary guy named Charles that I met was super cool to hang out with, also Dean from Skullview and Stone Magnum, and who can forget MENDOZAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!! Bob and Joe I ran into a few time are always supercool.

I would like to check out a show at Blondie's one of these days, it seems to be the place for metal in MI now and I haven't heard anything bad about it
