Death Metal

hypocrisy is actually really damn good, i think

Indeed. I used to listen to them all the time, as they were one of the first extreme metal bands I had gotten into. I don't listen to them so much anymore, likely because I listened to them too much in the past. Abducted, Virus and the self-titled are excellent albums.

Their first two albums are more traditional death metal and I don't listen to them really. I find them generic and too much like the unappealing old-school Swedeath.

I fucking LOVE hypocrisy "the fourth dimension", so heavy so great.

yeah virus is an outstanding album for fucking sure.yeah there older stuff is pretty genereic, but its still some of the first "swedeath",isnt it?

Not really. They debuted in 1992, and the Swedish Death Metal movement was already well underway. Penetralia is a good album, nonetheless. A nice combination of the ferocity of the US scene and the darkly melodic rhythms of the Stockholm sound.

I prefere 'the rack'. Have you heard Embrace The Death ?. Asphyx recorded the album with the old vocalist before The Rack and it was intended on being their debut album but the label did not want to release it because they did not feel the production was good enough. Great album. A lot of the music did make it on the rack but some solos, riffs, and harmonies are not and it's still different. Embrace The Death was not released until like 96,98 so I would not doubt if a lot of people think it's one of their newer releases when it's actually their first.
I'll have to check it out. I've been listening to Last One On Earth a lot lately.

Are we talking about the lyrics or the music here?

If it's the lyrics, I never take them seriously if they are in the vein of Cannibal Corpse.

If it's the music, I always take it seriously.

Essentially. We can thank Pain for letting Peter purge his mainstream tendencies so Hypocrisy can stay somewhat underground and not sold-out.
