Define Death Metal and Black Metal for me please

I'd like your definitions on this subject.

What exactly constitutes a band to be Black, or Death?

death metal vocals are grunts or growls ranging high to low. touras lindberg to chris barnes.
black metal vocals (from what i've heard) have no range: they sound distorted. listen to demoncy.
their is a lot more guitar work in death metal, especially in the progressive and melodic death metal bands. black metal riffs are always easy and consist mostly of strumming chords (yes, like punk). pretty talentless to me. besides that, they stick to a couple of riffs per song which can last for minutes. black metal gets boring and redundant. it sucks.
more aggressive drumming in death metal.
lyrics are obvious.
most black metal production is repulsive. it's hard to make some of the music out.

The production on alot of black metal is pretty repulsive! but I think it needs to be that way... it just feels right!!! Like ANAAl NATHRAk... Bloody hell they are so slick. Terribly hard to listen to but get their evil point across beautifully.

Of course theirs bands like DIMMU B. who are polished to high hell, but they arn't really pure black metal... they are more like Symphonic Melodic black metal or sommat.

The Riffs in black metal are different than in death metal. Black metal has blurringly fast chord progressions where deathmetal is more technical and involves more variation to the riff. Death metal often just uses the power chord where black has alot of varying evil sounding chords, loads of minor suspensions and added 5ths... totally awesome really.

DISSECTION ARE GETTING BACK TO WORK... OH YEAH

Don't listen to what that idiot SoulSlaughter says. He clearly has no knowledge whatsoever about black metal.

i'm the idiot? you're trying to convince people all black metal is talented. all the black metal albums i've heard are a complete blur from start to finish (albums from demoncy, bathory, ancient, emperor, dark funeral, venom, cradle of filth; i'm sure there are plenty more). i really feel embarassed when people learn that black metal was highly influenced by death metal. oohhh, am i supposed to be scared when i listen to a bruise on the silent moon? i'm trembling with fear.

makeup shouldn't be part of any metal band except retarded 80's hair bands. i mean, i'm so shocked by black metallers black makeup that i went and soiled myself.

(at least death metal bands and fans can say their music is not about image).

just because black metal is the best thing norway could come up with, don't take it out on true metalheads. i'll say this though, black metal is good for opposing the growing christianity in norway as well as keeping up with norse mythology. so i respect black metal bands values, but the music is shit, except for dimmu borgir and marduk. suggest some black metal bands like them, and maybe, i'll change my mind. but even they don't come close to death metal.

and i'll be sure to blast cradle of filth in my car, so that people will know that i'm dark, disturbed, and will resort to wican magick if they fuck with me. so i guess a lot of black metal bands have no idea of norse religion. cthulhu is coming for my enemies. watch out, i might use wicca with stupid bitchy goth girls to call cthulhu on you.

ooooooooooooooooooooohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.

i also should add when black metal bands who incorporate synthesizers in to their music, it's sounds really corny. anything by cradle of filth sucks.

melodic death metal bands add synths to enhance the guitars. listen to children of bodom and kalmah. righteous metal. no metal can can compare to fast-ass arpeggio guitar scales teamed up with fast-ass synth solos. it's mind blowing

I won't even bother answering your pathetic ramblings, as you quite clearly again demonstrate that you don't have a slightest clue about what you're on about. If you think Cradle Of Filth is the epitome of black metal, then it's just laughable. Cradle Of Filth isn't even black metal, it's teen-angsty gothrock.

HAHAHAHAHAHA, this is great. SoulSlaughter, you have to be one of the most ignorant people to "grace" these boards in a while. Cradle of Filth is nu-metal you dumb cunt. Get AIDS.

isn't it funny then that a lot of black metal fans classsify cradle of filth as black metal. get your shit straight

a lot of black metal bands do incorporate synths in their music and it sucks. it could also be argued that dimmu borgir isn't black metal or so i hear from dimmu fans.
