hey all...this is my first post here, but i've been watching for a while now, and now that damnation has been leaked i'm horribly conflicted...wanting to hear it, but trying to be patient until april. i just have a simple question about the album; i'm curious as to what role electric guitar plays in the songs. i know it's not all acoustic, but the band has said in interviews that there would be very little to no distortion. is this true? and what about the solos?

argghhh!!! the only thing holding me back from DL'ing it is my desire to hear it new and fresh right out of the packaging...that....and my shitty-ass connection.

It's true... there are some lightly distorted little blues sounding bits, and some very strange effects with tremelo picking on some tracks, but generally electric guitar doesn't play too great a role in the songs. I think that the bass guitar actually stands out more.

thanks Fifth Horseman! I probably won't download it, I know the feeling of excitement, the tingling of the spine as you tear open the plastic, the smell of the liner notes, and that first second on hearing that first note of a new album. Certain releases, I think, demand the patience to wait for this special moment. I will wait...

Actually, I'd say about half the album is done using electric guitars, it's just a clean effect; and trust me, that makes a huge difference. I was expecting a mellow album, but nothing could've prepared me for this surprise. There is some distortion in "Closure", it almost sounds like they're about to go back into a death metal track when it suddenly goes back to a mellow mood. There's some slightly distorted guitars that really give a bluesy feel more than anything else here and there.

I'd say I was expecting more acoustics, but seeing as I'm still listening to the album, I'm trying to withhold my judgement. My first impressions are that it's good, but short and no where near the amount of acoustic arrangements I was expecting. Everybody's saying "oh there's no electrics in Damnation", that's a bunch of bull, like I said before, it's about half electrics, just done cleanly, and it sounds good.

As with all Opeth's albums, they always seem to hit me with a surprise on the first listen; there may be things I'm not quite accustomed to, but sometime the same week, I'll be playing the album over, and over, and over, and over, and the fucker grows on me like an infection that I'll never rid myself of. It's very very Opethy, it just oozes their style, it's just that they've never done this before.

i'm actually very upset with damnation but anyway......listend to it high the other night, its like the PERFECT stoned album, the death vox freak me when i am high just cant stand to listen to them, but damnation is NICE
