well...i can't really come to a conclusion.
i really really love damnation. i think it is an excellent album. it is totally mellow, with no death vox, which is why many people want to deny that it is indeed opeth. however, as mentioned, look at songs like TBYF, Credence, Benighted, Face of Melinda, Patterns, etc.. They've always had non-agressive/acoustic parts in basically every song..but now to record a full album like that may bother people.
it definetly stands out from their full catalogue, for reasons stated above, but i mean if i had no idea who this was, i would still think it was an excellent album.
i'm rambling. i don't know if i'm totally against mikael having released this under his name (despite the fact he writes all "opeth" music anyway). ahhhh.
