Do you like death, black, doom metal?

I would agree with you there, but I have heard COB and really like it (even with the vocals) i should really check them out soon.
I also really like King of Terros and Inferno (j/k)

Personally, i like the genre's... black metal more than the other two, but melodic death metal is great stuff... Arch Enemy, Dark Tranquillity, In Flames, And the GODS CoB. I also love Opeth and Bloodbath (bloodbath being pure death metal). Dimmu, Vintersorg, and some others are good... i am going to end this quickly because family guy is on...

Not all doom metal is full of screams and growls (ala My Dying Bride)

Many doom bands have clean vocals... try Solitude Aeturnus... they have one of the best clean vocalists in metal... Rob Lowe.

I like some death metal, if it is melodic or progressive in some way. When I was in high school, I listened to Deicide, Cannibal Corpse, and Morbid Angel religiously. Now, I still like Morbid Angel, but Death is my favorite from that Genre.
I also like Carcass a lot.

For Black Metal, can't get into it really. I like some of the music from Cradle of Filth and Dimmu Borgir, but any tr00 black metal fan will tell you that those bands are not black metal. I just cannot tolerate the screeching vocals and the infamous black metal shitty production and mixing techniques.

I don't know what the hell Doom is. I heard once that Sepultura was doom, but I see them as more death/thrash (pre Chaos AD sep)...anyway, I like sep's thrash-era stuff.
I also heard that Down was doom, and I don't like Down at all. (I am a phil anselmo hater, so call me trendy, he's not killing any trends, just starting them)

So...in a pirate sign off...
Der' she blows!!! arrr.....

I've never been depressed enough to like any of the genres, although I think some elements are useful when you want to express a certain emotion in music, like anger. But to sit down and listen to a whole album would be torture. Too much forests and death and darkness for my taste.

I don't think it's fair to say that one has to be depressed to listen to such music as death and black metal. Oh, by the way, i don't much care for "true" black metal (shitty production, crappy vox). I like stuff like dimmu, some CoF, newer emperor (the old stuff would be good with better production). Ant it's like 1:15 in the morning here so i am going to bed... catch y'all later.

Death metal is probably my favorite genre (brutal and melodic) i'm not a huge black metal fan, but I still listen to some black metal bands. And as far as doom metal goes, I used to listen to Electric Wizard some years ago, but not anymore.

Man, I don't get all these genres... :Smug:

I do love COB because they are so melodic. I can deal with the screaming, mostly because I don't want to understand what he's talking about...all this death and what have you...

Old In Flames totally rules. I also like Moonspell, but I guess they're considered 'goth metal.' whatever.

The only death vocals bands I could ever stand were Opeth and The Berzerker...

I still don't know why the hell I like The Berzerker, that shit is crazy. However, Opeth is really good. I ove Mike Ankerfeldt's voice, especially when he changes from death to clean at the drop of a hat. They have some amazing riffs, too...

I never understood why metal fans are often so divided between the progressive and extreme genres. I think death metal is great, but it does take an effort and an open mind to get into.

Extreme metal is excellent, and if you have an open mind you can see past the screams and growls. Unlike Power metal, black and death metal music is more about the atmosphere than songs or "the catchy chorus".

Death Metal
Children of Bodom (where death, thrash, and power metal meet)
Opeth (progressive death metal)
Cynic (jazz-death fusion)
Gorguts
The Black Dahlia Murder
Cryptopsy
Necrophagist
Carcass
Nile

Black Metal
Emperor
Immortal
Mayhem
Darkthrone
Burzum
Dark Funeral
Cirith Gorgor
Borknagar
The Crown

I really really like Dimmu Borgir, but as its been said, tr00 black metallers bitch about them not being "real" black metal. Whatever, sounds like BM to me

And Children of Bodom are powermetal. I don't care what anyone says, Alexi's vocals don't fool me  ;)

Well doom metal is more deepressive and softer. Take the amazing Anathema and My Dying Bride as examples, Candlemass is good too!.

But I like pretty much all metal, except maybe hair metal.

Favorite Death metal:
-Dan Swano (Edge of Sanity, Bloodbath, Moontower)
-Opeth
-Suffocation
-Immolation
-Arch Enemy
-GORGUTS!!! (very technical!)
-Death
-Cephilac Carnage (also technical)

Black metal:
-Emperor
-Dissection
-Enslaved ("Below the Lights" is proggish!)
-Arcturus (not prog, but circus crazy technical)
-Ulver

Im starting to like some death metal. Has anyone heard of the new band As I Lay Dying? I found them on mp3.com and they are on metalblade. I love everything about their music. Crashing heavy guitars, awesome drums. The singing is a cross of hardcore and death. Technical and fun at the same time.
