do you ever doubt the truthfulness of stories posted by other um users? have you ever thought how easy it is to lie - just lying, not trolling - in order to make an impression, without noone ever finding out for certain?

rahvin.

nah, i tend to believe everything i read. :Spin:
i don't see the point in lying on a board like this in order to make an impression. first of all, you'd be lying to yourself and if you have some sort of conscience you'd feel sad seeing how stupid is what you're doing. and then, i don't think that even if you make an impression that could lead to a point where you can say that it's been worth lying.
:Smug:

and now tell me, who's thomas? :err:

was that a real question? :err:

your opinions are logical, that's why i don't think they're remotely appliable to the vast majority of people around here. :)

don't you guys have links to threads where you feel people are pulling your leg?

rahvin.

but it most obviously must have some kind of worth for many, just pick any thread at rondom, on any board.
I am sure you'll find at least one lying post in every thread; even in "now playing" threads  I bet half of np-postings are fakes, only to show off that someone has the latest album, the newest demo-sample, is the grimmest blackie of all or simply the most sophisticated proggie in the world

not to speak about all the other ridiculous and exaggerated replies to all kinds of topics.

did something specific happen to suddenly bring about this subject? as for me, i don't lie. okay, that's an obvious lie  there's the occasional fib but for the most part, i'm an honest person. i don't see the point in making up stories, because as miolo mentioned, it's not worth it.

Well it all depends, doesn't it? I mean someone who talks about how he/she is close personal friends with *name of celebrity, musical or otherwise, here* and they have huge parties at *name of fancy club/expensive restaurant here* is somehow going to seem less believable than someone who claims to be listening to ooooohhhh, say Metallica's new album on a "now playing" thread. While it might be so that the latter is lying and the former is not... Or I dunno.
Actually, it's too early in the morning for me to think. Perhaps it's obvious...

Like, "never trust a dog with orange eyebrows"?

My dog has orange eyebrows.

If I can't trust my dog or the lot of you, the very foundation of my life has been irreparably rocked.

Yeah, I could mention Hedon as an example. He tries so hard to make it look like he's in a band or something, posting all the DT news updates and everything but I know he's just some attention seeker. Is there anyone out there who takes him seriously?

Other one is this guy called rahvin. I mean, does he really think we believe he's the moderator of this board? Sheesh, how desperate can people be when they want attention
:Smug: :Spin:

@opi: yes! :Spin: unsurprisingly, you're perfectly right :)

sometimes by the time i finish typing a now playing, the next song already started. i'm sowwy... :p

@caelestia: nothing special, just wanted to know your opinion :)

rahvin.

@Qsilver

Hmm I trust a lot of people (online)
Well, you can hear (quite often) whether someone is to be trusted or not. I would second Qsilver, that Hedon guy, sheesh.. Mr. Mysteria

I don't lie that often myself (yeah yeah to one's parents, of course..) but I can never think of cool made-up stories to tell about. :/ Which is good/bad.

Why was this thread made anyway? ..Well? Well?? Is there something going on? Have you been lying, Rahvin? ..IS there someone behind me?? OMG OMG Conspiracy, conspiracy!!

thomas is a very close friend of mine. ironically, he's been having lots of doubts lately :erk:
oh, now i see. :Spin:

@opacity: i guess you're right on the "np thread". i'm not so sure about the others though.

@qsilver: :lol:

@wazoo: there's ormir behind you. you know why. :p

well i think that a lot of the heartwrenching stories about personal tragedies and childhood traumas are fake. they're posted to collect "i'm sorry" comments and attract attention. i don't think anybody on this board ever did such a thing - not the regulars, at least - but i was wondering if noone but me (and opacity, of course ;)) had ever noticed something weird...

let me point out that i was talking about this board, since i don't read much of the others and i might not have noticed suspicious stories. ;)

thomas is my ex-boyfriend. kind of a doubter, too.

aside from this, of course rahvin must know that i second him on that every split second. :)

everyone lies, to a point. and people with funny stories, the likes of "my partner is in a coma because he slipped while driving his motorbike on a racing track that he'd entered to reach me more quickly" (honestly, i've been told that by someone), are about 100% bollocks. People dwelling forums are no less mendacious than the rest of the world, but I wouldn't set for the equation implying they are more likely to lie: as we have all seen IRL, some liars have no shame at all, and they are going to throw the most incredible stories at your face regardless of the fact that forementioned face is staring at a monitor or at them directly (possibly with an awed expression, that's what gets them going and you don't want them to stop cos they're just so hilarious). Recently a roomie of mine has told me she was near-raped by some famous lawyer in her city (yeah right), then turned anorexic, then was saved by a miracle performed by the spirit of St. Escrivà, the founder of Opus Dei (fuckin' A). Of course the Church rejected to include the miracle in the folder when the case for his santification was pleaded - God bless the Church, I daresay, at least they can tell bullshit from slightly believable stuff.
But the funniest part was definitely the one about the rape. Apparently, this guy - the president of the Lawyer's association in her city - was a close friend of her dad's, and one day he took her round on his Harley (*rotfl* are we talking lawyers or Manowar here?) and tried to abuse her...
