I would say that by far Marco is my favorite drummer, Lang in second. Marco just has a fun personality and seems so natural when he plays. I think he could help make their next album something that I would really enjoy listening to.

Mike just seems dorky. His over-dramatic characteristics totally ruin any kind of actual emotion he might be trying to convey with the songs. I think he would fit perfectly with where the band is at currently, and that is to keep writing more technical and emotionless songs.

Are you basing that opinion solely on the video? He was there for an audition... I know if I was in his place I would be acting like a complete giddy dork as well. I think his excitement is just coming off the wrong way in his audition tapes. I think he's a phenomenal player and would have a lot to offer the band, and not just add to emotionless technicality.

I've seen many of his video's and he always comes across a bit over-dramatic to me. I find it most noticeable in quieter passages when he's doing cymbal work. When there's a song that's non-stop full power, he's excellent, but there's something about when he needs to incorporate more dynamic playing that just seems off to me. If I had to compare his dynamics to a mic preamp, his dynamics seem like a step-stage gain rather than a full range gain, if that makes any sense.

You can find the favourites only listening the drums sound in the mix.... Mangini had the "Portnoy" sound so the songs sounded really good. Roddy was mixed with the cymbals very high and harsh....

I believe Marco was my favorite so far

"Does humor belong in music"?.........well, in my opinion, yes :)

will some members of DT keep their humor if a drummer musically could run circles around them ? :Smokedev:

i really liked what Mangini did, and how Donati works, a LOT, also, but somehow, (t)his "connecting the hemispheres and leave the orbit behind" thing is unbeatable. :kickass:

How does Derek have more votes in this thread than Wildoer. That fucking baffles me. Has no one listened to Static Impulse? lol

Keep in mind that Portnoy did a lot of background vox on older songs, so it would be assumed they need somone to fill that role as well live. Peter's screams are great!

Minnemann is so much creative, it's ridiculous. He deserve much better than playing in DT, just look at this ;)

They will be better off with that Mangini guy.

Roddy really came out like a one-trick pony, despite him saying that he got into metal last it doesn't sound like that.
Lang and Donati did their parts on a very high level, Donati especially with his knowledge of piano and guitar grabbed the riff phase very quickly and confidently.
But Mike and Marco have that spark of joy when they play that is really contagious and could breathe some fresh air needed very much in this stale band...
I'm torn between them two, both seem so sincerely joyous and instantly made me smile...

I enjoyed the episode 2 a lot since it hardly had any real tv bs in it, and focussed on music and the audition process (the phases thing was quite interesting).
And those drummers killed it and got a badass drums tone.

I think Mangini suits DT best, but i didn't like him that much (he overdoes things as other people said already, and looks kind of fake and annoying in the end, whereas Minneman seems like a natural). My fav was Minneman, but he deserves better bands (artistic-wise, not popularity-wise) IMO, and he's doing good already in his career. I loved Donati also. The Roddy part looked kind of mixed.

Can't wait to see episode 3 (and it seems the drama / reality TV bs is gonna be back this time :) ).

My guess is Mangini got the job. He's kind of in the same "movie" with the rest of the guys. All 7 drummers are very good and Marco was very fun to watch too, but let's not forget the logistics side of things: visas and all of the shit paperwork that non-USA citizens may need when they tour to make everything a bit more complicated (Chimaira hiring Soilwork's drummer and then having the same problems, as I recall)...
