well I was in the army too, but german one and served in no wars. army is really cool for perhaps 2 years and after that it becomes a little bit boring.
thats why I left them after becoming specialist. studies are more fun now*g*
anyway good luck in iraq, respect for finishing the boot camp.

i just don't fucking get it, you are 18 years old and you are going to fucking war just for the sense of pride and for serving stupid politics. Respect for the boot camp thing but as far as the actual war is considered you should have your head checked. I sure hope that this WILL NOT be the case but is your family going to feel pride when they will give them the american flag, oyu know what i mean.

One thing you gotta remember is that I've been mentally trained for this kinda situation, going to Iraq and all, it's incredible how much different a military serviceman's mindset is on things compared to a civilian's way of looking at things. But I'm ready for this, I'm ready to go kick some ass over there, come back, never go again, finish out my enlistment, finish college, which I'm currently in right now, Western Michigan University, then start a family around 24.
Also, I chose to do this because it looks really good on a resume when you're outta the military. So I just really wanted an advantage on any competition I have for jobs in the future. Also, the life skills I've learned already just from boot camp I wouldn't trade for the world, and would not have learned anywhere else, and that is evident by looking at my friends who just bum around.

Funny, I thought only guys here in Slovakia and the neighbouring countries join the army and go on missions to Iraq or Kosovo, etc. for money (well, not only, but you know what I mean). But now I see its the same everywhere.

Thank you, I'm pretty sure I won't return crazy, I'm pretty good about not getting rattled about fucked up shit like deaths and all that, I've always been good about handling shitty situations like that and not letting it get to me/get the best of me.
But believe, I've pretty much already seen a lot of what I'm gonna see, killing-wise, they show us videos of heads blown off in boot camp and infantry training and like rockets being shot off destroying buildings and people getting sniped/shot and all that, they got their own way of preparing us.

Do they show you videos of your fellow country men kicking the living shit out of iraqi children just for the fun of it? While spitting racist remarks at them and laughing it off like it's an everyday occurence? Because we've been shown that... and I watch people being shot in the face for fun... yeah I'm sick like that... but the crimes against those children is just unnacceptable, and truly upsetting.

Well, I hope you know what you're doing, although it sure is better people like you join the army out of their own free will than the government forcing people to serve. Not stupid. Maybe he's not afraid to die. What he believes in, if he indeed believes in all that "Irak is evil and good old Uncle Sam must rid the world of all evil except itself", is stupid, but not being willing to die for whatever he believes in.
