Of course most of DT fans are intellectuals and that's because DT is an intellectual band. They show a certain amount of maturity and dedication in their art that is not often found these days.

You know, it might be just that. I'd wondered for a while now why this board had more intellectuals / smart people than other boards, but i think you might be right.

... But yes, DT are a fine art, not appreciated by the mindless... Morons can like that Millais artist... wow, great stuff... like the pantera of art... anyone will find something they like, maybe its bland, but it's well executed. Now Picasso, one needs to search for something reflexive in his output for a true appreciation. And it's easy to find that in DT for instance. And only smart, willing, perhaps slightly pretentious people are in for the task. It can be given as an example/analogy in any art. Ask a DT fan what his favourite film is, Lynch fans, Goddard fans, Miyazaki, Aronofsky, Von Trier, Cronenberg fans... And it's fact these guys make and have made the best films in history. It just goes over the general film going publics head... Like DT.

Because DT isn't easy listening. You have to really understand what they're saying, and it's not always easy -- and some (if not most) songs can have more than one meaning.
