If I did mistakes please excuse me ^^
Italy
Population: about 50/60.000.000
Administrative division: 20 regions which are also divided in various provinces
Capital city: Rome (Roma), in the region of Latium (Lazio), in the centre
President: Silvio Berlusconi, a dwarf-bald-fatty thief who broke the law with financial crimes but always found a way out or used the lawful prescription. His government management is mediocre and he attributes his responsabilites to the "evil communists (he includes also socialists in this word...) who hate me and say that Italy is in bad times, but it's not true... Italy is going good and they make my government to seem a failure". He's also the president of Milan A.C. (Associazione Calcio: Football Association)
National sport: soccer/football. Our championship is in a critical time: clubs which fail economically but are saved with ridiculous decrees, players with an absurd salary, idiot fans and supporters, a poor rulement and too politics inside the game. This is only a bite.
some funny people:
- Emilio Fede, manager of a a TV news-bulletin, he's the bootlicker of Silvio Berlusconi and he gives the guilt of every bad thing to communists.
- Luca Turilli, guitarist (Rhapsody) who modifies his solos with the pc and makes them faster
- MOIGE, Associazione Italiana Genitori (Italian Parents Association): these crazy people accuse videogames, comics, cartoons, music ecc. of the guilts of the youths and other unfounded things. Expecially, they believe that manga=anime=sex, violence, pornography etc.
I don't tell you the crusade made against Neon Genesis Evangelion, a title which I admire a lot, and its "not-Catholic contents"...
- Centro Culturale San Giorgio (St. George's Cultural Centre): other fanatics of the "good way" as they know it... the 99% of the music is "Satan, violence, subliminal verses, drugs etc. etc.", they say. George Bush is affiliate with Hebraic lobbies. Naturally, Hebraic lobbies plot hiddenly evil things. Again, Neon Genesis Evangelion is evil, evil and evil. Etc. etc. etc.
All this "in the name of God and for the truth, against evil things blah blah plagiarize people blah blah they divert from the Christian way blah blah". All with summary knowledgements. All mixing obvious things, not-so-obvious things but not even wrong, and complete idiocies.
If this is the Christian way (however Christianity died in 313 d.C. you know why), I prefer the not-Christian way. At least it teaches me to think with my brain...
Italy is funny.
YOU WAITED THIS PART AND NOW YOU CAN READ ABOUT IT: ITALIAN MUSIC!!!
Today in our mainstream we have some commercial-dance DJs (Gabry Ponte, Gigi D'Agostino) and some songwriters who have proposed the same identic stuff for years.
But, going in the underground scene, or in the past years, we can discover a lot of excellent artists:
in the 70's and 80's we had a good prog rock scene (Area, P.F.M., Banco del Mutuo Soccorso etc.) and some pop or italian traditional music songwriters (Francesco de Gregori, Lucio Battisti, Fabrizio de Andrè - this is unique ). In the new-wave, a big point of referremente was Litfiba (next times the band decayed). During the 90's and the 00's there were a lot of excellent bands like: Marlene Kuntz (noise rock with great lyrics and concepts), C.S.I. (rock with various influences), Afterhours (similar to Velvet Underground), Subsonica (electronic/rock), Linea 77 (crossover) and Klimt 1918 (goth rock/metal). There were finally a vivid punk rock scene (Derozen, Meganoidi, Punkreas, Negazione etc.), some post-rock (Baustelle, Giardini Di Mirò) and pop/rock bands (Perturbazione), but I don't know them. I also have heard about some strange bands, like Offlaga Disco Pax (funk/punk, new wave, shoegaze, ambient, industrial). Other names are Elio e le Storie Tese (rock with very hyronic lyrics), a lot of fusion/jazz rock bands or singers (I don't have a huge knowledge), some blues bands and a lot of singers of traditional folkloristic regional Italian music (I don't have interest in these people however).
In the metal scene, the best bands are surely Novembre (similar to first Opeth but with a more gothic influence, they started before Akerfeldt's band so it's not true that Novembre are influenced by Opeth, in case the contrary), Disarmonia Mundi* (melodic thrash/death but too similar to the Gothenburg scene, expecially Soilwork - also because they've got Bjorn Strid in the line up) and Ephel Duath (it seems incredible: jazz metal!!!). Next there are bands like Lacuna Coil (gothic metal with alternative bits), Aborym (black metal with post-apocalyptic atompsheres and various electronic fields into their musical concept).
Other bands (that I don't know, however) are:
Necrodeath
Stormlord
Labyrinth
Graveworm
Gli Atroci
Spellcraft
Summoner
Nanowar (demential covers of Manowar. "nano" is the Italian for "dwarf". They tease Manowar, practically)
etc. etc.
Special mention for Rhapsody (power metal/medieval folk), a band with pc-accelerated solos (see Luca Turilli above for more details), Christmas choruses, ridiculous lyrics, a singer who searches to hide that he's Italian even in the songs with Italian singing and a lot of auto-exaltation.
So, any questions about?
*: Disarmonia Mundi is the Latin for "Disharmony of the World".
