Emperor coming to the US

Thanks for the recommendation.

Let me break it down even further for you in an attempt to get you into these guys. Listen to the following tracks on IX Equilibrium and Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk:

An Elegy of Icaros - Track 3 (IX...)
The Warriors of Modern Death - Track 7 (IX...)

The Oath/Ye Entrancemperium - Tracks 1,2 (Anthems...)
The Loss and Curse of Reverence - Track 5 (Anthems...)
With Strength I Burn - Track 7 (Anthems...)

Just listen to those and see if you can develop an appreciation. They are simply some of the best black metal songs ever IMO.

isn't someone working on a movie based on Lords Of Chaos? that would be an interesting flick

haha. Maybe. maybe. If wacken doesn't happen, i'll probably end up visiting some places in North America and I'll go in 2k7 when i have a real job (thereby not being poorass)

I was told by their label that these 2 dates are the only ones. No other dates will be booked.

chances are they will probably record these for some DVD ... that would be cool

If I could plan that far ahead I'd consider buying a ticket and coming down to NY to party. But i can't, and that early in July I'll be studying my balls off to write my CCNP exams.

Interesting. To me, this was the beginning of the end, heh. "With Strength I Burn" is practically latter day Arcturus -- all this stuff is pretty much the heyday of "prog black metal" a la Arcturus, Solefald, Age of Silence, etc.

I dunno, we've had some interesting debates around this phase of Emperor's catalog in the past, but to me, this shit just doesn't even conjure the atmosphere of BM as it should - just too song oriented (in the conventional sense), lacking that aura or ambience...

Not saying it's bad, just saying it aint exactly "I am the Black Wizards", or Enslaved's "Lifandi Liv Undir Hamri" (my goodness, can it get better than this), or even 'newer' stuff like Astrofaes, Taake etc.

Likewise, I'm always wary of 'raw' BM played live. Could it possibly retain that atmosphere?

Heh, that's my favorite Emperor track, bar none.

Seriously, I can't tell you you're wrong, we just see it differently in terms of what we like best - you're a fan of their raw, necro, hell frozen over in a basement studio 666 miles underground at midnight era, and I'm a fan of their more progressive works that combine certain elements of the above with a little more ambition. I do really like "In the Nightside Eclipse" and even "Wrath of the Tyrant", but there's only so much I can take of it, whereas I can listen to the other albums for more extended periods of time. The later albums simply have more longterm staying power with me.
