my solo is done!!!. I have it up to speed. It will feature some scary sounds, and wankery, and of course F# harmonic minor. I love this thing, because i had to come up with a solo in the obscure scale of F# harmonic minor which is in a shitty place on the neck in D standard. I will record it tomorrow, cause i will be home alone, and i will be able to bring the amp in to record, and crank it up, and spend some time placing my mic. Now i'm gonna go do shit, that i was suppose to do tomorrow.
BEHOLD!!!!

Hmm, I'd think that in a tuning like that you could tinker around with the F half-whole diminished thing - thought you had asked about that before.

Oh, that is a good point, but i can't visualize the diminished scale that well on the fretboard, and plus i am more used to the harmonic minor and i know it very well. For a future solo, i will try the diminished scale more. I need to learn it better. I will bring back up the old thread about the diminished scale in the next days

I can't visualize it myself, all I do is remember which note is my root and from there construct it around the m3 and b5s for that note and the one above it.

Anyway, the way I used to see it is that whatever you play, 2/3 of it is in diminished, so as long as you stay 'somewhat diminished' you can just say "Mmm, nyyyuuuessss, the diminished went quite well there, but I didn't want to stay *too*... inside the box, *arrogant fake British chuckle*..." and people will think you're an artsy-as-fuck multidisciplined genius.

EDIT: Steve, is there any way you could loop the heavy part of that (without the quieter intro part) to give the less-sporadic among us (read: me) more time to develop ideas before cutting a solo? I'll still put it over the 52 second bit, I'd just like to figure out this one little part that just doesn't squeak in right.

Hey Jeff,
I think it would be easier for you to do.....just depends on what you're recording with. What are you recording on? Some type of waveform recording system( i.e. PT, Cubase, etc.)? If you are, all you would have to do is take the 2 track mix, and dupe the section you want to repeat. Hope that helps.

I'm guessing that most of you are working on this solo right now? So far, I've received 3 entries( no names, but you know who you are!). I'm checking my e-mail at least 3 times a day for this, keeping on the lookout! Hope you guys are working on them leads!:kickass: :headbang: :headbang:

If I run into my friend Dan before the weekend is over he may be able to help me record it - but atm I just have no capability to do so :(

Eager to hear the results of the board though!

I just sent mine. You got mail Steve.

I recorded it with the line in since my mic died on me today, so i just plugged in my amp in my computer, and played everything in there. It was a bitch to pull, because i couldn't hear very well what i was playing (unplugger), since by plugging in the computer it bypassed the speaker on the amp.

I sent mine in a few hours ago, how many in so far Steve?

I decided to try the let's-pretend-we-don't-have-a-pick approach (actually I just dropped it during the take I liked, and couldn't grab it so I just held the neck behind the left hand and hoped for the best before spotting another pick - incidentally, an .88 Tortex - and tying up as best as I could).

when you post them, i think you shouldn't list whose solo it is, to beat out the possibility of someone voting for their favorite person, as opposed to favorite solo. popularity contest isnt good! then, once the voting ends, it could be revealed who did which solo

Well, I hear you on one point Will, but as I've said before, I think if anyone made the effort to record a solo in the first place, then we have a right to know who it is. I for one want to know who you are! I don't believe this will be based on popularity, nor should it be. A vote for your fave solo should be based on that principle; it's your favorite, right?
BTW, folks, have received 6 submissions in total; ANYMORE OUT THERE?:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:
