Funeral Doom

Well, in defence of the MDB reference, I meant more of the feel of the guitars and keyboards rather than the songwriting itself - the swell of the choral synths above crashing chords reminds me of the choruses to tracks like 'The Raven And The Rose'.

Don't even know why I mentioned it in a funeral doom thread, though... *d'oh*

But yeah, good album. :)

Seeing a few familiar bands I need to re-acquaint myself with in this thread - I used to love Evoken, Avrigus, Shape Of Despair and the like, but I seemed to fall out of liking doom metal so much a couple of years back in favour of Isis/Neurosis/Pelican/Cult Of Luna/5ive's Continuum Research Project-type stuff...

damn, Red Stream just keeps bringing the doom. THey just got Evoken's "Quietus" and Unholy's "The Second Ring of Power".

Red Stream didn't have Shape of Despair, but I found a used copy on half.com for $4.00. I listened to some samples on their site beforehand, and I really like the 'dreamscape' essence that they manage to gather. Also, I'll admit to my Amorphis fanboy DNA taking control over me with my bias towards Pasi Koskinen.

By the way, I read today that A. Tolonen (from Nest) will be playing the Kantele on the next SoD album, and I'm not sure if anyone likes this instrument, but he is a master of his craft. I can't even begin to imagine how great funeral doom could sound with the Kantele instrument involved.

Just bought "rapture" from Redstream thus completing my Unholy collection. I need to check out Esatic Fear mentioned earlier in this thread...Reivews on doom-metal.com sound promsing :Spin:

:goggly: not a problem, i wish i had your problem about music listening! i have nothing =( well i will be getting The Grey EP soon and should have a Sally CD coming as well, but that's rather insignificant compared to you!

Hi, I like Esoteric, Skepticism and Thergothon. I like Evoken too but heard too little of it.. I also like Unholy but the album I got is hardly funeral doom.

lol crossed my mind as well.. won't be here much longer though. end of march i gotta go somewhere. doubt i'll get the $3000 i need to move to TX by then so i may have to go stay in NC with my uncle to save up what i need. don't really want to go there though.
